Pushrod and Power

Post by Speedy Goomba »

I'm currently using Comp 5/16" hi-tech .080" wall pushrods in a 6200rpm Small block with a flat tappet cam.

Has anyone here seen power gains through switching to a heavier pushrod, IE the Comp 3/8" Hi-tech .080" wall pushrods?

Yes,due to deflection with some lobe profiles, large diameter pushrods are coming back and being use more frequently. I know of a large CID SBC that picked up 40HP with some single taper rods. Also our sales on 3/8" guideplates has grown due to this trend.

Cool, might be a worthwhile comparison for next season.

The pushrod is on the slow-side of the valvetrain. You want stiffness above anything else, especially gotta compensate for that in the longer length rods.

If you can't/don't run a guideplate then look at a taper rod from Manton. They're worth power in the right situation.

What about ffor an LS1 application, pedastol rockers, pushord holes arent very large in the heads.

3/8 pushrods, or somethign from Manton may help? hydraulic rollers, 7100 rpm
