Re: starting race motor during winter storage
I don't do much. Change the oil and filter, drain the water out of the block and put in a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water to prevent corrosion and rusting, and back off all the valves. I don't back the valves off to save the springs, I do it to keep crap out of the cylinders, like little critters that occasionally make their way into the headers.....a little bit of fogging oil in the cylinders to prevent rust......oh, and disconnect the battery and put it on the maintainer, drain the fuel and put it back in sealed containers. It will get used to initially fire up the motor in the spring, then mixed with new fuel to get rid of it. I try to never have more than a couple of gallons left over at the end of the season.....If there's more, the wife's car get a few small doses!!
