Has anyone ever lost a rod bolt, or had the opportunity to find one loose because they didn't use the stretch method and only used the torque method?


I'll tell you, that in 30 years i've never had a rod bolt come loose and I do not use the stretch method. When my engines go to final assembly, the rod bolts have been torqed and undone about three times. I am very concerend about the stretch method compromising the rod threads and the bolt it self. This is just my opnion, I feel it does more harm than good.

apprentice, did you lube the underside of the bolt head every time? That gaulling would make me want to replace the bolt and spot face the cap and start over.
