800 Hp vortec 350 ci pump gas?

Post by F1Fever »

The SB 2.2/434 thread got me to thinking about modifying that profile cam and running it in a 17.8:1 350 w/vortec heads. When I did my computer showed right under 800 Hp.
Using this calculatorI come up with 7.096:1 dynamic compression.

here are the cam specs:
LSA : 112
ICL : 112
Dur @50" : 280/296
Lift : .333/.333

I know it can't make that much power, and how could nearly 18:1 run on pump gas.
So I have to ask, what would a combo like that do in real life??

Forgive me here cause i'm very lost!

.333" lift? Lobe or at the valve? even so, thats some sick duration with that lift. it will be the flatest lobe ever!

I love the Vortec head design. Both in stock form and the bowtie version. But i can't say it's provide enough intake port to acheive that power number out of 350 ci's.

18:1?? with only 350 iches, you'll need a massive dome, along with milling more than actually possible off the vortec heads. (thin decks) .

Try buiding (or thinking up) something a little more realistic

Yes, a very short fat lobe, and that'd be 500 at the valve. I actually first had an idea of a 13:1 that made 550 Hp on the computer but when I saw that thread with the 434/sb2.2 and that cam profile...
So I know that compression ratio will be nearly impossible to achieve, but I'm really asking in a theoretical sense what would happen...what would the Hp and Tq figures really look like?

Well that was a $40 dyno program I bought, here's one I wrote:

It shows about 470 Hp, that is much more realistic isn't it?

Personally I would try this site for a program, I think it is probably more productive,,

Diesel, LOL there's no way but you two are funny 8)

I've built a couple of motors and usually impress people with my junk, but after I started seeing these computer calculators I started looking for that "oddball" setup that would really crank out the power.

This thread is also to show that theory and real life don't always mesh.

Im curious, what intake closing number did you use? I tried the program with your numbers and I get 11.1-1 dynamic.
Intake closing point using there idea of adding 15 degrees to the closing number ends up at 87 ABDC. Is this what you used?
or did you use 112?

280/2=140, 140+ICL(112)= 252, 252/180=72, 72+15=87

(I was doing a lot of calculations and obviously got lost, thanks b/c i do feel a bit better about the DCR theory, but still yet not totally) LOL, buy the way, I used 114, not sure where I got that from...or that's what's in my notes?

Jim McFarland built a 17:1 Cr pump gas combo way back when - and even offered it in a kit. Didn't make any power worth a crap but it ran. Another excerise in futility. Someone here can probably point you to the article. :?
Function - the hidden math.
