Irontite in race motor w/aluminum rad?

Postby mike22l » Sat Aug 18, 2012 12:22 am

Any objections to running irontite in a 358 dirt circle track car with an aluminum rad?

I heard the irontite may plug up the tubes in the rad?

Just bouncing the idea around. I do ceramic seal some of my stuff prior to assembly.

Not sure of running the All weather sealer in the assembled stuff though.

Just thought it may answer a question if all the other attempts Ive tried doesn't.

only a problem if the water level is lower than the tubes.

i have several customers with this or other similar sealers in the system due to block and/or head cracks, and not had any problems with blocking. we circuit race, too, so these cars do run races up to an hour long... the shortest races would be 15 mins.

the one time i was involved with a car that did have issues was when a bucks down racer friend had a pinhole in his 14 second drag car's radiator. he had sealer in it, was sealed up and working well and we were tuning on the dyno. it threw a power steering belt, the dyno operator paniced and shut it down halfway through a run. of course it was red hot so it then popped a hose blanking plug off, which then lowered the level of water in the radiator which instantly blocked it!! another used radiator was an easy fix, but it also outlines my personal opinion that if you cant afford to race properly, dont bother!!

If you read the directions on the Ironitie bottle you will see that you only use a tiny amount - I doubt that it could block anything serious.

I ran 50ml in my alum engined road car with distilled water for 8 years continuously without ever draining it like the instructions say, and the only problem I had was that about every 3 years it would stuff the water pump seal.

Remember, it won't work with coolant, so distilled water only.
