Postby Kingrocpage12 » Thu Aug 16, 2012 3:09 pm

Well I'm building a 505ci bbc need a little help would really appreciate any useful information. I have a gen IV 4 bolt main arp studded, it's bored .100 over, eagle 4.250" 4340 crank, 4340 6.385 eagle rods, TRW forged pistons 12.5.1 with 119cc head, I have some patriot aluminum 320cc heads but I was looking at a pair of Canfield 350cc aluminum heads (would really like some advice on how much better the canfields would perform as in hp) have victor jr intake, 1150 dominator, also have no cam ( also would really like advice on a cam, DEFINATELY wanna run a solid roller somewhere around 750-800 inches of lift but still want the car to be street able) I wanna get as much hp as possible!! Have 1.85 Jessel roller rocker shafts would like as much advice as possible and thanks!

Keep the patriots , the canfields will only pickup , deep in the RPM range ,( if the car is like 2600lbs fine ) ........The cam is very variable ( NEED GEARS,CONVERTER,WIEGHT, ETC) TO HELP .......but something around 274-280 @ .050 , and .748 - .715 lift , with A 110lsa will HAUL A$$ ! ,

I agree also...I put Dart Pro-1 325s on my 555bbc with a UD-HAROLD sollid roller cam....I made great power under 7,000 rpm....Dan.

Talk to a cam grinder when it comes time to buy the cam, that's a pretty serious rocker ratio, and you could get into serious valvetrain control issues with some/many profiles.

Will need the flow numbers off the patriots after porting to correctly profile the lobes needed.

Ok I haven't had tht done yet but a machine shop near me wants $800 to do a full port job. Does tht seem like a decent price?? And Wat kind of horsepower difference do you think I will have from leaving them alone over porting and polishing them as long as I get the cam needed for either route I take???? And was also curious what advantage and disadvantages I wud have by using the 2.30 valve over my 2.25????

I would leave the 2.25 valve ... the 2.30 is really close to the cylinder and will obstruct airflow at lift ... and personally , i would only clean up the heads ,minor bowl work and a good valve job .. the heads flow plenty for a 505 @ 750 hp .

I'm sayin I've seen guys get 900 hp out of a 468. So I kno I can get 850hp out of my 505 jus need to kno if these patriot heads are capable of makin 850hp and I'd like to hear an opinion from Chris Straub on the canfield 350cc heads over the patriot 320cc heads. And to get a radical 850hp Wat parts in my parts list need to be thrown out or changed to build a strong 850hp???? Thanks

On 505 CID you will need 2 things to achieve those numbers, Compression and RPM. With these comes maintenance. You have to ask yourself is your goal a number or is goal to have fun and work towards a goal.

The Patriot head with work can produce some nice numbers. I would use it on 505CID to 7000 rpm. The 350cc canfield is a great head but you would need to put some inches under them or turn them to around 8K.
