What is the Max HP on a sealed GM 604

I see how GM want's you to adjust the valves, any ideas to help it run better. They also want you to run Mobil 1, will it be as good as Joe Gibbs $15.00 a qt. and how many races or laps on an oil change. Is there a better place to get Crate motor info then here?

Those two oils are probably about 5 in the pecking order.

saw 430 hp on one ,, that was with a great set of headers on a tight dyno ,,, i would zero lash the valves with it hot ,, or maybe give it 1/8 of a turn ,, but thats me

i wouldn't buy a new one ,, the clearences are tight factory ,,, got a friend thats a cert rebuilder ,,, the longer they've been ran , the better they seem to do on a dyno ,, a person has to figure its because those tight clearences have opened up somewhat ,,,, these are engines that have been maintained of course ,,, but ran hard ,,, my buddy dynos all of them when they come in and leave ,, the one i mentioned that pulled 430 , had already been rebuilt once , and ran another 2 years before this ,,,, it looked great inside ,,

430 is not unbelieveable. Had one up here that was the same although it was original with 1 season on it well maintained and used the right oil for the application. No I can't say but it was worth 5HP over the moble 1 but he did run a cooler.
I bet there is a bigger improvement possible by using a stress plate when they get freshened.

They are great engines for what they are. 400 +/- 2 or 3 % is normal. If you want to trick them up with late model money sure more is possible.

There is a guy on the 4m board, Dynoman14, who claims with his coated springs and tricked out carb, he sees BIG number for the 604...turning them 7200..He might be the guy that robert1 was talking about...

they usually blow up over 6800 ran steady over that ,,,, there just isn't much there to get power out of 'em legal ,, my buddy keeps his legal ,,, yeah they respond great to changes ,, that are illegal ,,lol ,,, 15 hp just by going to a 110 LSA ,,, but ,, you can hear it and if the right guy checks it , your busted

If I remember correctly he was saying he could make 625HP.

You couldn't change the 604 to a 406 and get 625hp from the thing. lol
