Magneto questions...

I have never used a Magneto ignition before so I'm afraid I have very limited expirence with them.

In a drag race situation I have witnessed a friend with a C/ED car do back to back tests and run within a hundreth with an old Vertex vs and MSD 7 type ign..... Another friend with a S/G car basically did the exact same thing.

Both said the MSD started easier and ran in the pits better but everywhere else there really wasnt a difference and if anything they seemed to think the Magneto ( both old style Vertex W/O an external coil ) seemed better in the upper RPM ranges.

Anyone have any expirence with these style Magnetos in a N/A type gasoline engine ? Any advantages or drawbacks ? In a nostalgic type drag racing situation would you use one on say a 7200 RPM SBC ?
