As some have mentioned, the faraday cage can protect against EMP.

Simply place your item in or build a cage around it with ferrite screening,
a steel car body works fine. Then make sure it has a good ground connection.
Fiberglass or stainless steel doesn't work. : (

A microwave oven is a good example of a faraday cage.

As we all know some energy gets through, they still have
warnings against it for people who have pacemakers.

Also recall that the coil on your car is an example of what
happens when you have a collapse in a magnetic field. When
that stored charge is changed quickly that collapse in magnetic
energy, in the coil, lets out big energy...which travels down the
spark plug wire and ignites the fuel in your racer. ; )

Attached to the bottom of Kevin's linked article was this pic
which is really scary. Imagine if you can learn a foreign language this
way in 10 days how you might control your compitition's ignition!

No offense intended OP, but this sounds like something some old drunk dude with an 88 shaved into his back hair would say at a Napcar race. He doesn't understand EFI or why they switched. The only thing he knows is it makes his 77 Trans AM that much further away from being a Cup car haha.

Jerry rigging a timing light to mess with electronics haha. Are you sure that wasn't a MacGyver episode?

Imagine making someone forget a foreign language in 10 days! Efficient use of this device could enable that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... SDI3wnTZZg

Only if it's not properly "sealed".

Do not have time to read thoroughly but free space coupling via external excitation by laser (say) does not appear to be mentioned; old info here I suppose. A countermeasure would need to be tuned to the threat; similarly for the threat to achieve the target. A bit beyond our Windstar van, I suppose.

Same with my microwave. But it's still handy for some quick popcorn. :)

I was woundering if anyone knows if the same thing could happen to the starting lights at the drag strip?
I was told that back in the day the could screw up the tree with something.

If such a device is constructed,
A) it's cheating
B) it's Illegal and the FBI or other branches could hunt you down, as it could be classified as a weapon. Who's to say it couldn't be used in other malicious ways?

Drop it and treat it like irradiated dog $hit from a dog that just ate a can of beans..

Dont know , was not there, but know someone that was into the old radios way back in the Navy, the radio and tubes were put into a box or cubby made of 1/2 in thick steel around it to prevent electomagnetic interference with its internal components. maybe a :^o but hey sounded good,

Aren't you more worried about turning into a female because you drink out of plastic bottles. :)
