Sounds like he already has Vortec heads, about 64cc. easy to get 10.2 :1
Since he has them, they are the best bang for the buck.
Could pocket port them and pick up 20-25 hp.
Since it is both street/strip i'd say he'd be happier with a dual plane as he is only shifting at 6000. That is my pick for best bang, port the vortecs and try a dual plane and add a cold air intake for the strip.
.
.
tame a lumpy cam for the street, more street torque! see my article, archived in the waybackmachine.

Look at the casting #'s, vortech's are 906 or 062. If you have them, just put an Edelbrock air gap on them, and a hydraulic cam, makes a strong street runner. If those heads are NOT vortech's, then just about anything will be an upgrade over the rest of the centerbolt heads.TB

I agree with the CR question. I recently bought a set of heads that were supposed to be 67 cc chambers, measured 72 ccs. Some of the truck heads in the early 90's had funky things going on in the port to promote swirl. If the heads came from a 305, they could be 64 cc or smaller chamber.
So much to do, so little time...

Doesn't sound like vortecs to me. Sounds like swirl ports with the CENTER 4 being angled differently. You'll get 10.2 to one with 64cc's which I'm pretty sure the 350 swirl ports are.

Vortecs are 64cc, so your cr would be the same. A new intake would be required for those.

If they are the swirl port heads, they suck totaly. Sure, you could spend a bunch of time porting them, and they would work ok, if you did the work yourself. The best bang for the buck would be to find a set of used Vortechs that have been re-done. You can usualy find them with the guides trimmed down, and a spring upgrade, to run a bigger cam, for $350-$500. With a Air gap dual plane and a 230 at .050 cam, you will make 400+hp and 430+ ft/lbs. The last one like that I did, made 408hp and 442 ft/lbs. It was a generic 230 at .050, .480 lift Melling cam, in a 355.

If you can swing about $1100, a set of Profiler 195's would be the best bang for the buck head you can buy. Its a nice head, flows well, and has future upgradeability. They would add about 30-40hp over the Vortech, and be able to support 500+hp down the road if you wanted to make more. And obviously would respond to porting as well, to be able to make even more.

The 92 truck head I ran on a 383 with TPI poured at 58CC. I couldn't figure out why it was retarded all the time! Until I pulled them and measured.
On the 383 they were in the 11:1+ range. Great till 4000 and really died after. Still hit knock pretty much all the time. That is what baffled me.
Another one to add in the books!

My cousin got the casting number, 14102193, he understands that head has 65.3 cc chambers, right? That should explain how I figured 10 1/4: 1 comp. I understand those heads suck performance wise.

Here are your choices as I see it:

1) Brodix IK200 w/64cc chamber 253cfm/171 cfm @.500" (advertised) .575" max lift, summit price $1140.95 assembled
2) Dart Iron Eagle Platinum 200 w/64cc chamber 262cfm/175 cfm @ .500/.600" (advertised) .600" max lift, summit price $1241.90 assembled
3) Brodix RR200 w/64cc chamber 260cfm/171cfm @.500" (advertised) .600" max lift Jeg's price $1456.99 assembled
4) AFR 195 Eliminator 195 w/65cc chamber 275cfm/213cfm @ .500" (advertised) .600" max lift, summit price $1464.95 assembled
5) Dart Pro-1 200 w/ 64 cc chamber 264cfm/180 cfm @ .500"/.600" (advertised) .600 max lift, summit price $1513.90 assembled

I did not include the profilers because according to their website they require shaft rocker arms which is an expensive option in a budget engine
I used Summit racing/Jegs pricing as a comparison only. Obviously jobber/wd pricing is less.
I left out a bunch of other heads that are available but don't offer any benefit performance/price in my opinion.
Of this list the Dart pro-1 and the AFR eliminators would make the most power but they cost more as well
All of these heads are available with smaller intake ports if you are uncomfortable with the 200cc size

The Profiler head does not require the use of shaft rockers. They will work with standard stud mount rockers, shaft rockers are on the "recommended for optimum performance" list, but are not manditory.

Sorry, I missed that. In that case I'd be calling Mr. Speier and ordering a set of the Pro-filers.

I own a pair of the Profilers... Mine are the 210cc and they flow Over 300CFM with 2.08 Valve... I have std Roller Rockers 1.6 Ratio, that I bought from Chad Speier.... Great Guy to work with.

I don't see how you can beat the AFR head. They are 100% CNC machined to boot. I have sold a few sets and had happy customers. I have used the Chevy and Ford heads.
