Chevy 350 TBI Cylinder Head Casting Number?

What casting number heads was used on the Chevrolet TBI engines besides the 193 "swirl port" casting? I know that all of the TBI engines were not swirl port equipped but I don't know the casting numbers for the regular port heads what are they?

You maybe thinking of the 191's. I think they were used in the HD trucks.

I think the 187's were used on 305's, but they're a swirl port as well.

That's a possibility. I'm thinking that they came on the trucks that were heavy 3/4 or 1 ton or possibly the TBI engines that were used in the cars at that time. I think that all of the 305 TBI heads that I've seen from that time have been swirl port versions.

The 083 castings were used on the late 80's TPI 350's that came in Camaros and Transams. They are a direct bolt on without the swirl vane.

193 and 810 castings are the only ones I know of that came on TBI 350's. The 810's were used on HD trucks and had 3/8 valve stems.

Head number 217 (last 3 digits) is a 350 1.94 intake without the swirl port. Most often found on marine applications. You are looking for engine code '8' engines in Camaro and base model Corvette. They have the 1.94 intake without the swirl. I have never seen a factory truck engine in those years without the swirl.

The 217 head doesn't have the 45* center intake bolts like all the other TBI heads.

That's odd as the head I have here in my shop has the center intake bolt holes on the different angle and I can't recall ever seeing a 217 or its sister casting the 083 with a different intake bolt configuration.

I'm in Canada so it might be a Canadian thing we have been known to have different GM castings before.

Any idea if it is worth it to replace the stock "193" TBI heads with say a set of 487/993 heads from the early 70's without any other mods except opening the center intake holes to align with the old heads? Any real value here.. and would this be a direct replacement without modifying the computer.. etc.

You will be losing compression. Check the listed combustion volumes between the heads http://www.chevytech.com

There is a site somewhere that was called Mortec.
It listed every casting number chevy made from 55 to yesterday for all V8's. Heads Blocks ect.
May be worth a search

I did not realize the head chambers were that much smaller.... I guess I could use a set of accessory hole fuelies.. instead.... about the same cc in the head.. and definately better flowing.

Odd...I just used a set on a motor this week and the intake bolt pattern and angle was standard SBC + a 69cc chamber.
