Billet Carb Circuits Tune-up

If one had to have a carb, I was thinking it would be nice to have a carb that:

1. Could be opened without leaking fuel or disconnecing anything
2. Use emulsion tubes
3. Change the jets without taking the float bowls off
4. Had 4 float bowls to reduce slosh
5. Had 4 needles and seats for more flow
6. Float level adjustment from the top
7. Submerged needles
8. O-ring seals
9. Looked better than a die casting
10. Change boosters easily

This is what I came up with, I don't know if I got all the circuits right or not, it was kind of tricky to do in one part with no metering blocks. Does anyone see anything missing or wrong?

I really like what you've done there, but there are a number of things which I'd change for both the functional reasons, carburetor modifier / builder and tuner / end user. Great stuff though.

Wow, you've invented the Carter WCFB!

Okay, okay, I'm only kidding. It does look really cool, with a bunch of bonus features.

A big part of what I like about the AFB/AVS carbs is the one-piece body/bowl with a lid. And, the ability to change metering rods in situ. I like the way you don't have to mess w/ the fuel line to pull the lid. In fact, it's so cool, I'll flat swap you a couple AVSs for a pair of yours...

Also, what about replaceable venturi, like Webers? It'd be a 'value-added' deal for a customer. Especially a guy who might run it on more than one motor. New venturi, boosters, and air correctors would have to be a better price than a whole new carb.

I think on a 'clean sheet' piece, there should be adjustment for the enrichment circuit (PVCR in Holley-speak or taper in metering rod), as well as the air correctors. And, I think it'd be cool to be able to do that stuff (especially jet changes) w/o opening the lid. It's another gasket which is manipulated, and may fail; more bolts to manipulate... more hassle between rounds. A 1" round plug in the top of each bowl could have an O-ring seal, and screw into the lid casting. Be big enough to let ya' fish out jets.

The Carter WCFB had some cool features but the wrap around fuel bowls fuel would have slosh problems and if it were Dominator size it would be too bulky for dual carb installs.

That looks awesome!! Wish I could contribute more than that...

Hmmm, I was thinking that I had over simplified the circuits.
So let's say I could make them for for $1,000 would anyone buy them?

I'll explain, the way I got thinking about this was looking at really nice Cobra made from a lot of billetparts and the carb looked so out of place.

I thought it needed a better looking carb than a 1960s design die casting.

But I guess the cost of making them would be sort of like the car, about 3X what anyone would want to pay for one.

If they worked as well or better than what's currently available, and were priced accordingly, I'd run one no problem. If you were willing to give me one to test, I'd be more than happy with that too............. :D

Good sentiment Coloradoracer, but in reality that isn't how you or the majority of the market place acts. I've been building the "better mouse trap" since the late 1990's and the "market" has yet to fully accept or embrace my carbs. Sure, there are people who are naturally skeptical and there are people who are afraid they will loose what little grip they have on their claim to being an "authority" or "expert" in the field so there is naturally the competitive sabotage and backstabbing.

Point is, this carb is subject to all the same hurdles and obstacles if it's anything more than a billet Autolite 4100 from 1960 or it's copycat spin offs the Holley 4010 and Summit carb.

Don't get me wrong though, these obstacles and hurdles are all surmountable.

It would be really cool to see Troy and Jon work together on this project since they're both in so-cal. Obviously Troy has a great understanding of Carb circuitry and Jon has a great understanding of design/manufacturing. =D>

Might consider the SmartCarby as a possibility or for some design ideas.

It's a possibility I suppose. I did shoot off an inquiry to a Venture Capitalist the other day.

I have started using the smart carby and i have to say it destroys the old Holley style carbs. it made more power everywhere over a custom built PRC carb.

I could make more power over a PRC carb with a PRC carb
