There's no need to spend money on aftermarket 351C heads for 450 hp. Going from a factory 4 bbl head to an Edelbrock head would actually be a backwards step in power potential, for instance.

The alloys due to the better flow quality just do it with more manners and a wider useable rpm range.
It really depends on what you want/expect out of it, Clevo 2bl, 4bl and any of the alloys on the market will all make this hp with either 351ci or any range of the stroker sizes. Even the aussie 302Clevo crank will make 450+ on 2bl heads(closed chamber aussie 2V heads).
The only differences being ci capacity, low end manners, hp where peak is made, hp & tq band widths/rpm range and dollars spent.
Its a decide what outcome/attitude you want and build a combo to suit situation. Some people like big ci smooth/stealthy grunt and some like the same hp but with allmighty attitude/pose value to boot. If you want mega smooth go big ci/alloys, if you want pose value with the hp use a 302 crank and iron heads as at 450+ these certainly have attitude!
I like big ci engines but also when it comes to clevos and now that many go the stroker/alloy route to get say 500hp i have to say its not that exciting, personally I have way more respect for a 500hp 351ci iron head engine than i do for a 500hp 408+ci with alloys. Its all down to personal preference!

I really, really like a motor that comes one for nothing else but the excitement of feeling it build power. I can't even tell you how disappointed I was riding in a souped up Viper with a big ol' flat torque / power curve. Give me a Boss 302 any day over a Viper motor or any such similar builds.

Plus putting around town with a smaller hi revving engine it fools you in to thinking its weak with slow/light throttle openings. I have a manual valve body auto trans with a 10 inch converter and 3.91 gears. 340 Mopar engine. The sound can be awesome as the go go pedal goes down in the right gear. Its got dual quad carters with progressive linkage and no air valve in the front secondary carb.

You can buy factory closed chamber 4 bbl Cleveland heads for a few hundred dollars that flow around 270-280 cfm. With some regular port work, no filling or welding or anything even remotely exotic, you can get over 350 cfm. Why waste money on WAY overpriced aftermarket stuff? The hp/$ is very lopsided in this particular case. Here in Australia the 4bl closed chamber or even the 4bl open chamber heads are not all that easy and cheap to get at all.
By the time you buy and build a set with no port work, and no machining for screw in studs etc (if not already done ex factory) you can buy a set of ready to go AFD or CHI alloys.
But, our 2bl closed chamber heads work great with not too much port work so you can do a budget minded job if needed.
Even the 2bl open chamber heads work fine.

Now you still likely need valves, springs, screw in studs and guide plates. But still cheaper than CHI heads by a good bit for us in the USA.
The Aussie 2V heads are well liked over here. What do they flow stock on the intake side? 190 cfm?

I've seen lots of pairs closed chamber Cleveland heads in the $200- $400 range. If you want to find them you can. I'm not going to do the leg work for you. They may have been bare heads, but that's the way I'd want 'em anyway.

The reserve on that set is $350. And to be fair, finding a rebuildable pair under $400 is a good deal IMO. Finding a pair under $300 is a very good deal. I see 4 barrel Cleveland heads all the time on ebay, I've got 4 or 5 sets of closed chambered heads and two standard bore 4 bolt blocks myself.

maybe I am out of line compared to alot more of the head specialist on here but whats wrong with just straightening the exhaust side of the 4v head and maybe filling the intake side for better street type breathing. The 400 engine based off the cleveland block was suppose to be able to make 400 hp with nothing but a set of 4v heads, intake and a 850 carb.

different story on the 4V heads here in australia, but yes we can find and buy them from the USA too, then we have to add exchange rate , which is not too bad at the moment and we need to add freight too which gets expensive on 2 iron heads!, by the time we land them here and do a basic recon on them, we could just buy alloys for around the same money.
You guys have the luxury of having so many more sets put into production compared to the relativly tiny ammount that were sold ex factory over here.
