How do you measure valve length? From the top to the very bottom?

From experience if you are replacing stock length, .100 or .250 overlength then each manufacturer has their own idea on what that may be.

Tip length and margin depth are not the same across the board, so be careful if you are looking for individual replacement valves from different suppliers.

As far as measuring is concerned, I have always worked end to end.

Jerry,

Valve length is usually measured as overall length... from the face or combustion side of the head to the tip of the stem.

I have seen some Manley .100 long exhaust valves (sbc 1.6) measure .100 longer overall but only had .060 higher setup height , the margine was much wider ( thicker ) just like the fellow above has stated.

measure from the center of the dish to the tip.
