Methanol EGT's

What temps are "normal" for a welltuned meth engine running a slight bit on the rich "safe" side? I know EGT's are not the say-all, just curious as I haven't worked with it. Yet. :)

Preferably blown ones, that is... along with the boost level. Thanks.

around 600*f at stage rpm and 1150*f at the end is safe for me . somewhere over 40lbs of boost is all i will say. Good Luck.

all the guys around me have mix thought but i run mine about 1200 in the 1/8 n/a it gets about 1300 in the 1/4 .most people around me at my track run about 1100 to 1200.
my 2 cents

If the thermocouple is located within 1 inch of the flange, and the probe extends into or through the center of flow, 1140-1190 is good for many applications.

In my experience, temps hotter than this generally do not see gains, and tend to start dropping off. YMMV

Remember that alcohols tend to run fine rich (as compared to gasoline based fuels) but do not perform well lean - except at part throttle loads.

Anyone tuning with WideBand? What kind of lambda values are safe to tune into?
Any differences between methanols, for example normal versus M5?

Thanks guys :D Additional Q: what approx AFR's are you seeing at those 1150-1200ºF?

FYI i found out today that Haltech have a methanol AFR meter with a wideband sensor that reads between 7.7 and 2.9afr. It's not quite on the market yet though. Looks like another month or so..
AFR's i've been very reliably told are best at between 3.)or lower)and 3.8 on boost..
I've also found an injector that will flow 3300cc at 100psi and doesn't break the bank.. :D

Yes there is just don't know about M5 because it will not pass fuel test in NHRA?

Anyone else? :) I see the trend started, but I'd like more experiences..

I was told by a well known carb builder that 1290 is good and 1320 is best power. Just so happens mine is 1310 at the 1/4 finish. With that reading is a 11.8 reading on the 02 most of the way down the track.

There are way too many variables on egt's to say that as a blanket statement. I've seen many alcohol cars slow down anytime they get above 1250. Header material, wall thickness, coated or not, dragster (headers out in the open air) door car (headers under the hood) location of the egt probe, ENGINE COMPRESSION RATIO, etc. all have an effect on the egt reading. I usually tell racers to ignore the egt. (within reason) and tune the car for MPH, once you are satisfied with the performance, take an egt reading and use that for a reference in the future. All cars will be a little different.
