flat tappet hydro lifters [SBC drag race engine]

Post by Dragsinger »

without going to the $700.00 plus composite base lifters-----------------

what flat tappet hydo lifter is on the marked that will run to about 7100 - 7200 RPM? The cam and valve train will be proper for the application.

Let me hear about your specific success.

Thanks

I think Crower has a hydraulic lifter that'll work.

The lifters have almost nothing to do with how high the cam will go--- I have used everybodys lifters and they will rev to 7800 RPM without any problems-- ITs all in the cam design

I never use them any more, but the Isky 304 Mega--256 at 050- would rev right up there-77-7800-- I am sure that Comp has some that would do it too-

just for discussion purposes, these lobes were recommended by Chris Padgit at Comp Cams. They can be run with hydro lifters @ zero lash or with solids @ .004 - .006 lash

intake lobe : #6216 -
lobe lift = .340
@ .006 = 303
@ .050 = 256

exhaust lobe: #6218
lobe lift = .340
@ .006 = 311
@ .050 = 264

This is for a relatively mild, foot brake, bracket engine [350 ci] By my request, these are low lift, fast ramp lobes

Back in 74-77 we used the old school Isky 505 lift 310* duration hyd cam in a 383 Mopar with the Isky 2 hole hyd lifters. It would spin 7100 with zero problems all day long.

I put together a 383 sbc for a friend , dirt track , long straights , not so tight corners , 120lb valve spring rule ,, I had him buy the isky 304 cam ,, it sounds great , 13-1 motor ,, I figure most guys are gonna pic a ultra aggressive solid ,, I think this motor will pull them hard on the long straights , we'll see

4777 650, any dual plane intake , 120 lb spring , 3400 lbs ,and go ,,, , i'm hoping everybody else picks out a cam that's gonna wad up the weak springs ,, this guy likes gear too ,, its got a 630 gear now ,, gonna be interesting ,, I have a solid cam here if it doesn't work ,, he was low on money of course , so It looked like this was a good path for him

valvespring seat load rule. That's not one you see all the time. smooth cam for sure should work nice. That intake with a spacer should be pretty good too. Is this going in a modified type chassis or more like a ss class?
