3.25 stroke- 4.155 bore

Post by 2xmod »

I have some stuff layin around I want to use up. I have a set of 6" rod 406 pistons,a 400 block and a 327 crank. To make this work, Id have to use a set of 6.250 long rods. Does anyone see a drawback in such a long rod short stroke combination like this? Eagle has the 6.260 long SIR rod for like $250. Lookin to use it for a IMCA mod application not more then 500 hp. Would this combo really need some special ground cam? Thanx Brad

Keith Black has a flat top piston for use with a 6" rod

I know a guy who ran 7.20's with this combo in a 2400 pound race weight chasis. Twin dominators, sheet metal intake

What would be best is to get a block with 283/327 mains or 350 mains and get a crank with 350 mains or 283/327 mains

One time i saw a Bryant 3.26" stroke crank on Racingjunk for $550, it had 283 mains and Honda rod journals

If you've got a really hard tire, and have trouble hooking it up, this would be a good combo for you.

PS, yes you'll need a custom cam.

My friend has a similar combo (but using an old 307 crank). Stock Canfield heads and a 242/246 solid roller it made a tick over 500hp and spins happily to 7200 all day.

I would think on a dry slick track this would be great.
On a tacky track you would really have to put a gear in it to make it work well.

What new said, and depending on the car weight, gear, and track
it may be a dog in traffic IMO.

This 4.125"x3.25" has been the hot setup for dirt guys limited to 360" In fact, recent requests from some dirt track guys have us digging through our crank pile. We turned up a couple of large-journal 3.25" 327" forged cranks which are now being cleaned and turned. What are you guys paying for a good stock crank ready to run?

The stock bore of a 307 is 3.875 so at .030 over you'd have a 3.905 bore . and 3.905 x 3.750 = 359.29
All those other guys were cheatin ten times worse than us so it was just self defense.....Smokey Yunick
