intake manifolds

Post by bigjoe1 »

I will give you an example of porting cost . I charge 350 dollars for a single plane for what I would call an 80 percent job. This means that it will perform much better than stock, but if you want that last little bit of HP ( the 20 % 0 that might cost you another 300 or more) This is good enough for 95 % of the engines out there. This price can vary by 50 to 100 dollars, because, there is a big differance from one manifold to another.

Ok of the list of manifolds listed which manifold would take the least amount of work to produce good #s? I always gasket match and try and do a little under the carb area but not much work I also make sure the dividers have a nice radious to them. I have seen pics of meaux work on a super vic and he does a good bit of work under the carb flange.

I will say that the holley strip elim. I have took alot of work just to match the runner inlets on the plenum end, one was more than 1/4 inch off , basically all i did was match the runners on the plenum end and smooth the curves, I needed to get the car back together so i left some of it un-finished. I then went to summit and was surprised to see similar problems with the newer one that they have on display, so i looked at alot of intakes they have there, and most are cast pretty poorly, so I guess mine cant be too screwed up now, lol These are from when i had the intake off to plumb the cooling lines.

I know i am not answering the question, but I saw you had a holley strip dominator intake (why do they call them that with a 4150 flange ??? lol )

That looks like a very sharp edge, which is not good for fuel seperation

I would go with the world motown. It has a better over plenum and runner configuration than the Super Victor Or Team G. In all the testing I've done when ported it seems to perform the best.

World Motown Single Plane SBC 4150 # 061040

It is sharper than I would have liked at the time, but since the block is at the machine shop that is one thing i am going to fix, but I cant complain about how it worked....10.50's N/A 1/4 mile low 9's with a 225 shot. low 5's 1/8th mile, on 275 shot in a 3270 lb car

Im trying to get my set of track 1 heads and the brodix 4150 intake ported for my 421 sbc. Any info on either would be great. Really shooting for 600+ hp out of this motor. It is mostly going to be raced. may see occasional street action.
