Blower or Nitrous ?

Post by 8SECNOVA »

I would like to know what are the pros and cons of running a roots type blower on the street. First of all, I am building a “pro street” all tube chassis 66 Nova, and am having a hard time deciding what type of power plant to build. I do know it is going to be at least 598 inches and run on pump gas. I want to make around 1000 HP, to go the speeds I want to go at the track. I was thinking about nitrous, and also about the blower. I have been the nitrous route before and am tired of the variables that go along with using it. So I am looking for information / advise on running a blower. I am wondering if it affects water temperature at cruising speeds or sitting still in traffic? Any other info / recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks

If you really want a solution to your power needs. Go with the centrifical blow thru carb deal. You can check out some details on the web site I've profiled below. Last race season I was running a 632 gas/nitrous combination. I've switched over to a 565 (just a shorter crank) and installed a front crank driven F3R Pro Charger. R&D'ing it right now. On race gasoline and no intercooler.......1900hp is no problem with conservative tuneup. You could build a much smaller motor than the 598 and make 1000hp on pump gas for the street.
