valve job to port blend.

Post by Scott »

Hi, new here, I have just received my aluminium 23 deg aluminium Chevy heads back from having a 4 angle valve job done on them and there is a large step where the valve job bottom cut meets the rest of the port, this obviously needs blending into the rest of the port, but I don’t want to ruin a new set of heads.
2.02" and 1.600" valves.
Can someone give me any tips or tricks? And what to watch out for?
Should I blend the step entirely away ?
Should I blend right up to the 45deg seat ?
I have access to a flowbench if required, but want to do these myself.
Thanks
Scott.

Scott,

A few more details, .. are they ported? if so by who?
CnC?

Ok, .. if you can post a close up digital photo that would be the best
way for folks here to see what you have, and make recommendations.

There's a few options, .. I often don't blend the bottom angle
on my ported heads, but my VJ & porting is designed for that.
I like sharp edges under my intake valve jobs, .. while others
tend to blend the very bottom angle into the port.

The "safe" thing to do would likely be to blend the very bottom angle
into the port, .. and leave the other angles sharp.
You want to BLEND the bottom angle, .. not take it out, ..

Hope this helps, ..
