Splayed Caps on Small Block Chrysler

Post by la360 »

I have heard a few arguements against running splayed caps on a Factory Chrysler 360 block. Th main arguement is that it weakens the block when this conversion is done. On the splayed bolt holes, it's not uncommon for 2 or 3 threads to break through the main webbing of the block. I don't see this creating a major weak point, suely the added stability the splayed caps would provide would supersede this? Has anyone seen any breakages after this conversion?
Any thoughts anyone?
Anything similar occur in a Chev or Ford small block?
Thanks

We have run small block mopars since 1973, all stock blocks, some with block filler. Back in the 70s we cracked the number one main cap on an engine. Ever since then on most of our engines we have run the Milodon caps and not had any problems. Yes the side bolts go into water, we use RTV on them and do not have any problems related to the bottom end.

Hope this helps,
