Re: New Engine
My grandfather used to race a 292 in a 56 Ford...way back. They are cool little engines. Glad to see people are still interested in them. What are you expecting it to run et's? A guy I'm working for at the moment supposedly has a grain truck with a 292 in it. I haven't laid eyes on it myself but that's what he says it is. He said it had good power back in the day in the truck.
Re: New Engine
Going to try and run an 8.90 index, hope to make 625 HP, it needs to turn 8000 through the lights (may not)
Re: New Engine
I would suggest you try and discuss this with John Kaase as I think he has built a few of these that were pretty strong on power and rpms.

Re: New Engine
There must be a lot of people looking here, over 200 hits in 2 days, anybody think anything about the cam choice?, the heads flow about 245 @ .500 @ 28" and 205 for the exhaust (best ports).

Re: New Engine
Sweet project.
My only concern is the sharp edges on the valve relief in the pistons. I might worry about possible hot spots forming on those edges.

Re: New Engine
Those are crazy looking heads. So does the top intake port flow 20 CFM better than the bottom intake port? They might be a good candidate for a Siamese intake port experiment if you have a spare set and are good with a grinder.

Re: New Engine
What flow down at .300" , .400"
Is the gross lift figure on the card where you will be or are you using a different rocker ratio.
Duration is good.
Loce these old engines. Fantastic to see one in this type of use these days.

Re: New Engine
With the cam card on the other page 276/280 and this head flow and assuming the intake manifold flow matches the head flow the math comes out to 500 HP .. is there any more flow you can gain on the heads?
Re: New Engine
the 292 & 312 were the engine used in 1955 to 1957 thunderbird. the old isky cam and headers and 3-2's.
Re: New Engine
I think there's more in the heads (not much), this will run on alcohol, the intake is home made for a Hilborn 4 port (short).

Re: New Engine
The alcohol will help ... basically add 10% more to peak power ... what is the flow at peak valve lift?
The bottom line on what you are doing is just crank it up to Max and hope for the best .... since there is no part throttle to worry about and you can refine launch with converter and gear ...
Any idea what total car weight is with driver? Or used one of the many online calculation programs to figure out what HP you need to hit your given ET?
