Ian says the photos were from over 3 years ago and they did go to roller lifters.

Re: Interesting new v-twin engine
They look like flat tappets to me too, but then I'm used to m/c magazine articles with wonky captions/text in the article that has little relationship to reality.
I'll ask Ian about it.

Interesting new v-twin engine
Ian Drysdale in Australia sent me this Australian Motorcycle News article (reproduced with permission of the publishers) on a big twin cruiser engine that Ian and his collaborators designed/built. It has a number of clever features. The file is about 5MB in size. http://www.eurospares.com/graphics/e...

Re: Honda Moto3 racer press release
The new engines are built to a set price to the racer ($17212 at today's exchange rate) and there are materials/RPM limits and a limit on the number of engines/season. I don't see how these thumpettes are going to be any cheaper for a privateer to maintain than the 125 2T engines, but that is one of...

Honda Moto3 racer press release
http://www.rscycles.com/Bikes/moto3/NSF250R_press_info.pdf that's about 17MB. It is interesting to see what Honda is doing on their new customer 250cc four stroke single roadracer that replaces the RS125 two-stroke single. A 50mm throttle body, reversed cylinder head, all plain bearing crank, etc et...

First runs on my Flow Quik bench
This week I had my first tests on the bench I put together. I used an Audie Tech Flow Quik with the FQ software. I built the bench into a workbench. I was going to build a wooden plenum box, but since I pulled the motor/fan out of a shop vac to use I figured I'd recycle the vac body, since it was al...

Re: Japanese OEM motorcycle valve lock angles
I've seen mentioned that scanners are deliberately made a bit off to make it harder to use them for forging currency, but that may be an urban legend. When I scan large parts with multiple bolt holes that are known to be collinear I just choose one and place the image axis of rotation at its center ...

Re: Japanese OEM motorcycle valve lock angles
I did it by drawing a line along one edge and then watching the spinner in Paint.net count off how far it had to rotate to match to the other edge. 6 degrees seems like the nominal taper, but as you note the edges aren't terribly straight so the number you get depends on which part you want to align...

FWIW, here's the scan of the OEM Suzuki lock in all of its glory: http://www.eurospares.com/graphics/engine/HayabusaOEMvalvecollet002small.jpg Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond. I've sent a PM to Brian to get some more info on the Ferrea 7 degree locks for the Hayabusa as I'm not being...

Re: Japanese OEM motorcycle valve lock angles
Kevin, I tried that. To my surprise I found that where I put the lock on the platen made a big difference in how "flat" the image came out. The best scan has it looking like a 6 degree taper. 7 degrees is definitely not aligning with the side in the scan. I checked with a tech at a spring ...

Re: Japanese OEM motorcycle valve lock angles
Kevin, I hadn't considered that the OEM locks might not be perfectly straight. I'll hope that someone will come along who has the information at their fingertips but I'll look into some aftermarket parts too. The sides of the locks are about .2" long and a degree difference is only a few thou, ...

Japanese OEM motorcycle valve lock angles
Does anyone know what angle(s) Honda/Kawasaki/Suzuki/Yamaha are using for the taper on their valve locks/cotters these days? I've been trying to measure some OEM Suzuki Hayabusa locks with a couple of different protractors and it appears that between my eyes, my bifocals, and the magnifying glass I ...

Re: 1.9 home made roller rockers
Do companies make their own rollers? It would seem better to find a standard needle bearing inner race that fits the space and use that, even if you needed to grind it a little shorter. The bearing mfgs have plenty of experience with heat treat/bearing steels/grinding so why duplicate at great expen...
