Re: Cranking Pressure concern

I have encountered timing sets with the cam sprocket mis-drilled, off as far as 8 degrees. Never encountered a cam wrong. Retarded, of course, would certainly cause low cranking pressure.

Re: SBC NASCAR V8 firing order

My NHRA Super Stock 350" LT1 neither sounds, nor runs any different with the 4-7 swap.

Re: FuelTech question

Maybe years ago but lots of better, faster stuff out there now from what I see. I have worked with most systems. I would be interested how you think one system is faster than another? Since 36 (for instance) degrees spark advance is 36 degrees, no matter which system is used. 13-1 A/F is 13-1, no m...

Re: Excessive oil pressure

There is a difference for an engine that has to survive 1/4 mile at a time versus thousands of miles reliably. I spoke with a customer a short while ago about racers with high dollar sponsors calculating how little oil to leave in the pan so that the engine was dry by the end of the run. The sponso...

Re: Excessive oil pressure

I don't know of any competitive NHRA race engine builders using high volume oil pumps in Stock Eliminator or Super Stock small block Chevys. Many (I'm not a Pro, I have just built my own since 1966) use spacers & shortened gears to lower volume, worth about five hp. Myself, and many others, have...

Why would anybody put a high volume pump in a SBC??

Re: Will this make 500 hp ?

I'm just finishing a 406 SBC for a customers street 74 Camaro. It has 3.73 gears and a turbo 400 with a 3500 convertor. I told him i would build 500 hp. Here is the combo : Scat 9000 series rotating assembly with Icon forged pistons and 6" rods, internal balanced. 10. 2 compression. Piston is ...

Re: My off the wall thought for the day. Gear drive sbc

just have to point out to anyone fretting over the reliability of a 2 gear over a 3 gear drive. a sprint car uses a 3 gear drive, and runs 4 or 5 stage dry sump pumps off the front, a magneto, a power steering pump and fuel pump, off of the rear. On top of that they are running springs with 250 + o...

Most racers I know have gone to belt drives now. I use a Jessel.

Re: Will this make 500 hp ?

Only 410" engine I ever raced loved 2" headers. I had a street 383" LT1 that made the most power with 2" headers, but there is not enough room in my engine compt for them built correctly. My 350" LT1 Super Stock engines makes the most power on the dyno with 2". I used t...

I wondered who "team Creason" would be. Could not think of any racers calling themselves that.

Re: Will this make 500 hp ?

I don't know, Team Creason did 570 ish hp on 1.625 primary x 2.5 inch collector box headers. Would have made more with larger headers. My early 350" only made ~570, it preferred 1 7/8" primaries. lol. More where? LOL, 5K & up. No loses as low as the dyno could go. It is an NHRA Super ...
