Re: What rpm for dynoing 604 Crates
Yea those beehive springs really kick out some serious power. That bowtie logo on the "new" heads added 10 hp as well! Read your post same head as the 2007 ya right get a life not even the same castings   Yep only added the Bowtie nothing else yep same as the 2007 castings...

Re: What rpm for dynoing 604 Crates
And the newer are engines do make a little more HP over the older 604. And then there's the "more equal then others" 604 engines, that are making even more power. The newer Crate engine show a little more compression on the whistler then the older 604's We are lucky we do a cam change, de...

Re: What rpm for dynoing 604 Crates
The new 604 with the Bowtie on the heads show a little more power over the older heads, But a gear rule restricts those engines to 6600 RPM. All 604 crate heads are the same since 2007. They added the bowtie recently but did not change anything else on the head. Pre 2007 heads are the only ones dow...

Re: dart shp pro cam bearings
How deep do you groove Carl? I might try that on my next build Same size hole as the original hole that is already there and the groove is about .020 deep about 3/16 wide with the carbide we use. I just use a drill press or bridgeport to drill the hole and a die grinder and a round carbide seems to...

Re: dart shp pro cam bearings
On the SHP Pro blocks I use the GMP-1 and add another oil hole and groove on the OD of the bearings. Lot better oil control then the bearings with 3 oil holes.

Re: Is it worth decking this block
I men't to agree with everyone your quench is way too wide tighten it down- way down- pick a gasket - do the math- tell (consult) with) your machinist did you measure all four corners before teardown or off the crank CL- as CNC utilizes CNC "its best to square and deck first for the best resul...

Re: Is it worth decking this block
Nope I bore of the cam and crank center lines and parallel to the main line. I don't need to square and deck.wyrmrider wrote:CNC bres off the deck?
Kwik way?
that's CNC

Re: Is it worth decking this block
Never seen a flat deck from GM yet so I would deck it. Plus if your going to bore the block of the decks its best to square and deck first for the best results.

In our area we the engine builders are allowed to rebuild them, deck, bore, valve job, get the compression to 10:3 and a cam change and change the oil pan.

CNC and Rats posts would carry more weight if they weren't based solely on hurt feelings. Amazing how we have a professional business owner and an engineer trying to pick fights on an Internet forum. Hard to take guys like that serious. Check Tom post out as well before you start crying about me !!...

Re: Results from thinner ring pack
Tried a set of mahle piston on a new circle track motor with their new 1mm 1mm 2mm ring pack. Dropped my rotating torque from 130 in/lbs to 110in/lbs compared to the same engine with .043 .043 3mm rings. On the dyno the motor picked up 20hp and 20tq over my previous best and help hp much better pas...

Re: Is this normal lifter bore ware or something bad.
Does not look like a good finish for a new roller lifter, Your really need to measure the lifter bores and lifters to see what your actual clearance is.

Re: Issues with oil rails and scratches...
I have seen the zebra stripes from T/S oil rings, But never had one scratch or hurt a cylinder so far. When it comes to that ring package I will use the Speed Pro 9771 ring set now they come with a second Napier rings and there oil control rings leave no marks. My circle track engines with that ring...

I use a lot of Scott wires and just got a set in today from Brian you shouldn't have any problems with his wires.
