Re: Knock and Turbocharged Methanol
Kevin- I'm assuming you've tried a non-projected tip plug and didn't care for the results? The race plugs with the fine wire angled platinum ground strap work pretty darned good, a bit spendy though, the 1.06" reach for the EVO9 heads were 45 bucks apiece. Last forever or until you coat the nos...

Re: Oval Track Dizzy… Locked Advance or Not?
Sanctioning bodies haven't addressed the advantage to the crate yet- 60+ lbs off the front. ONLY aluminum head allowed in most cases. Plus then IMCA gave them an effective spoiler, then decided to placate by taking most of it away and STILL not addressing the basic advantage. So they had cars that t...

I'm surprised they don't have air bypass screws.

Re: where to mount IAT sensor
If you are fueling it speed/density, technically speaking it should be adjacent to the pressure sensor. Density = pressure and temp. But since temp sensors have significant time delay, and temp corrections across all operating conditions aren't linear and straightforward, some fudge factors don't hu...

Re: Copper O ring in the block, Steel multi layer gasket!
All the Japanese sourced EVO, HKS, PE etc. I've seen are .003". .003" layer folded over to .006". Stock 9 is .006" folded to an .012" ring and TTY bolts. Maybe we're saying the same thing differently. I seem to recall measuring the DSM Fel-Pro at .003" (.006" total...

Re: Copper O ring in the block, Steel multi layer gasket!
The OEM EVO gasket has a .006" stopper layer, works great with OEM bolts and preload values and moderate power levels, if you put in studs and crank on it it WILL distort the head enough that a leakdown tester will go from minimal leakdown to oops as the valve seats move. Aftermarket performanc...

Re: low resistance one way valve
A small vent hole in the relief valve face would probably purge just as well, but you might need to change spring rate or preload to get back to where you were on relief pressure depending on how the back side is vented. The valve itself doesn't do the purging as it closes as soon as the pressure dr...

Re: low resistance one way valve
Try putting a very small (.015"-.020") hole just past the pressure side of the pump. If air gets sucked in it purges immediately. Not enough flow to harm anything else.
Plus the pump will prime very quick.

Re: best EGT temps supercharged engine ?
The only way you are going to get decent absolute temp measurements in a moving gas is a flow mixer and very fast small TC's, constant flow, temp and pressure, none of which exists in an engine. Dieselgeek is spot on, header EGT's are going to be relative measurements, not absolutes, and the data ne...

Re: EFI suggestions/experience
LSR you get what 4 runs a year tops? If you don't HAVE to have EFI spend the electronics money first on data collection, aero sensors, GPS, wheel speed, steering angle, pressures, temps etc. stuff that makes the car go faster and/or identifies problems before they happen. Will pay dividends. Cheap w...
