Re: Flat tappet wear.. what to look for ?

Have you kept the lifters matched with the lobes? if not they are now unuseable if not get them refaced and touching up the cam is not expensive depending on the grinder I have never swapped flat tappet lifters around because I am so anal, but first large shop I worked at threw them all in a contai...

Re: lint free towels for final cleaning

Can't believe nobody mentioned coffee filters, they work far better than anything else I have used. I prefer the flat folded number 4 I think is the one, along with real Colombian cafe.

I gotta admit, I think Joe is right, thats a tough sell as a package IMHO especially considering the rarity of the Sunnen machine.

The single head I know of that does this is the 4.6 2V Ford head made after about 2006. The springs sit in a well.

As prior stated there are bigger gains with bigger/better heads.

As for compactness for cubic inches nothing beats a LS V8 IMHO and I am a Ford person typically.

Re: Pondering about flathead potentials

I don't see any HP gains in that article, and put some boost on a modern motor and you are looking at 500-1500RWHP at the rear tires of which no flatty is going to touch.

Re: 360 magnum pistons & supercharging question, mopar build

But if people tuned them properly so they didn't detonate....the pistons wouldn't break. So with a good no detonation tune I can do 1500RWHP with stock pistons? The nature of the junkyard dawgs around here at least is push the stock shortblock on boost until it breaks then simply get another. A mod...

Re: 360 magnum pistons & supercharging question, mopar build

I have pulled enough broken stock pistons with shiny marks on the ring ends to know better, half come out with the ring gap right at the edge of the piston break. You would never know if the gap was 010 too loose but you learn fast when its 001 too tight.

Re: 360 magnum pistons & supercharging question, mopar build

In my experiences its the stock tight ring gap that kills stock pistons the fastest when under boost.

Don't know the details but it might be only printing the mold, then you put the poured part in an oven to cure. Still a lot of conjecture at the moment.

Re: What next ? 3 D sintered metal c / rods and pistons

I do dental equipment as my day job, we start selling 3D xray machines that will talk directly to 3D printers this summer, the printers to arrive 1-3 years later. When nobody is looking I will have it make me a rocker arm in fake tooth material for my man cave. IMHO 3D printing is the future.
