Re: Rod Honing machine - how does it work?
If you are not going to be doing it then I don't see why we should be explaining it in such detail for your entertainment. You don't need to. Its a public forum, if you don't want to contribute, you don't have to. Why you think only those who need to know something are those doing it, thats a quest...

Re: Lift Plate
OK,,,question,,sorta a debate,,,who feels using a lift plate, bolted to the carb base is a good way to lift a fully assembled engine,,OR,,,how many are old school,,lifting the assembled engine from the head end bolt holes. It has always been my opinion that it is better by the end bolts, that way you'...

Re: GM's new LT5 DOHC engine
"and you can't make a big boost number at low rpm with a turbo." sure you can did it 40 years ago must be much easier today watched a program where they are working on using a electric supercharger to bring up power till the turbocharger will take over. some engines today use both a belt ...

Re: GM's new LT5 DOHC engine
You can "get away" with high boost, but the factories are usually looking for pretty flat tq curves and you can't make a big boost number at low rpm with a turbo. My direct injected VW turbo was 5psi I think and the new BWM turbos are 9.....the tuners bump that to 15, but 9 is stock. I ca...

Re: GM's new LT5 DOHC engine
Not too sure on the 60* part. While it narrows the width, a small displacement dohc runs out of valley really quickly for intake runners and such, if they go that route. Plus, they couldn't get away without a balance shaft in today's market. Now, a reverse flow (exhaust center) with a twin scroll tu...

Re: GM's new LT5 DOHC engine
Don't think I would want to put a warranty on a SBC with 30 lbs. of boost. More than that you can't make boost like that over a very wide rpm range, at least not with a turbo. 10-15psi is the more normal range for production stuff. so say 6-12 psi in the caddy, 8-15 psi in the vette would be my gue...

Re: Tech miss-directions to win races - and make a lot of m
No matter what you are allowed your opinion. But I think it's best we move on to my initial intent and that was to look at the difference in and out of line main bearings does to the power and whether or not align honing is worth anything. DV You know your original intent, and its in the title to t...

Re: Engine/Cylinder Head Design for pdq67
How about the "ramp head" Rolls Royce used on early Merlin aircraft engines...It worked fine on their 1920-30's cars but a failure for aircraft use... The Merlin a failure for aircraft use ? Are you kidding ? I believe he was referring to an early experimental ramp head Merlin, not the la...

Re: GM's new LT5 DOHC engine
As far as manifolds go, if you don't think LS motors break bolts then you must live in the desert. I probably drill out 2x as many LS broken manifold bolts as Ford, mainly because there are 2x as many Chevy trucks as Fords. And the Chevys also don't let you get away with ignoring it because the dip...

Re: GM's new LT5 DOHC engine
the viper used a single cam in block 2 piece camshaft for VVT. http://www.mechadyne-int.com/products/duocam/ Yup, and GM had considered the same option for the gen 4/5 engines, but they met their emissions and power goals with a single, and it was significantly cheaper. I believe early in the gen3 ...

I've seen some bad wear on pushrods/rocker cups on some gen3 truck engines as well.
