Re: Ford 427 "tunnel port" head curiousity?

I bet I have. :D I had to build my own exhaust flanges, the biggest stuff Hooker had was too small for the ones I had. And boy oh boy was it a pain in the neck to put the headers on in chassis. That was one of the knocks on all the FE heads, poor exhaust flow. Yeah now you say it I remember the stam...

Re: Ford 427 "tunnel port" head curiousity?

When I was in high school and college I had a 427 side oiler that had a set of TP heads and the 2x4 manifold with two 750's on, a huge, for the time, Isky Super Lagurre (sp?) roller cam .675" on the intake and .605 on the exhaust, the heads were supposedly done by Crane Cams that were cast offs...

Re: spray on piston skirt coatings?

Do spray on coatings moly skirt coatings work? Short answer, yes. Seems I have related this here a few times already, but here goes again. A number of years ago we built an engine that used coated pistons, Techline coatings, well the engine broke on the first burnout. Cause was Mallory flung out of ...

Re: Valve grinding driver/stone identification

I have what I assume to be a quite old Sioux valve grinding stone driver which I currently use. I would like to get a new stone holder;however, in looking at the ones offered for sale, they all have a "star" drive. My driver has a 1/2" male 6 point hex. The stone holders have a corre...

I bought a used SVS II a while back and went through the chuck and replaced the balls, replaced a few odds and ends, belts and such, as well as a new wheel, basically gave it a good tune-up. If looks counted for anything it’s no wonder no one wanted it and I got it at a very nice price, looks are de...

I don't think you need the super alloy valves unless you plan on seeing extened duration runs, and or well above 1200+ EGT's. I've used the Ferrea 6000 series stuff a lot over the years. Only had one near failure of an exhaust valve (multiple cracks in the face of the valve head, looked like it was ...

I make my own goop up, mostly Starrett M1, 8 oz or so, with an once or two of Marvel Mystery oil and a ounce or two of F type ATF. Coats well, drys to a film with great rust inhibition but cleans right off in the wash tank. Couple shops that I worked in used ZEP products. They worked pretty good. ht...

My understanding is that PAC use to make those springs for Comp. Comp may be second sourcing them from India, China who knows where now days, can't say for sure.

I'd guess you are looking for PAC's #1247 spring.

Been using Miller for the last 20+ years. Lots of nice used stuff on the market, Miller and otherwise. A buddy just picked up a Miller Syncrowave 200 inverter machine, cheap, I think under $1000. I’ve used it a time or two and its ok, TIG welding is such a touch thing anyway, at least for me. It kin...

Hell the old Ford FE 427 Tunnel Port heads had the push rods running right through the center of the intake ports. Those things ran pretty well. Can't see where it would be a killer for your application.

Re: CGI vs. Superior Iron Alloy

No they are not the same, our Iron Alloy is different than a standard block, we use a different recipe of metals to obtain a block that is harder than stock, but not so ahrd that it is brittle, but at the same time provide better ring seal. The CGI block is a term not coined by us, but something we...

Take a lap or two through the pits and staging lanes at week-to-week bracket races, its Moroso about 5 to 1 over any other brand, particularly at the fast end of the bracket. That is not to say other brands don't work well or are not cost effective, more or less, but Moroso seems to be the pick at t...

As far as mix/matching is concerned, what I meant was H series on the rods with V on the mains and/or vice-versa etc.....can it be done without consequences? Oh sure, we do that all the time. We use mostly H's on the mains, sometimes we will put HX's on the 2 and 4 saddles of an engine that wants t...

We have always mix and matched base, X and XX bearings of the same basic type (X = +.001 clearance, XX=+.002) to get the vertical clearance we feel we need in a given application. But we have never used say a P with and H, V, M or so on. Can’t say there would be any specific use in doing it. Someone...
