Re: Pan gasket / rear main seal leak question (big block mark IV)
And there ya' have it. Real world proof that "if you can't fix it with a hammer, it's an electrical problem."

Re: Gen V BBC timing cover?
Sorry. I ran the #10237300 and it comes up a Gen VI block, but I've had another gen VI block in the shop and it only had 6 holes which matched the timing cover it had. This thing looks like it could be a dual unit with all the holes. Just wondered if such could be the case. There are many more optio...

Gen V BBC timing cover?
Have a block that has a 1 pc. rear seal, Siamese bore 4.600, later coolant passages, etc. It has 12 holes in the front for a timing cover PLUS dowel pins. Some holes appear to be 1/4x20 and others appear to be abused 6mm metric. Milodon shows a gen 5 only timing cover but it only has 6 holes. Intern...

Re: Vacuum advance for street BBC
On my 505 with 10-1 and a 240'ish hyd. roller, it wanted 38 but 36 was where I settled with mech. advance holding it on a curve that didn't get all in until about 3500. Limited the total mech. to 14 on the MSD with a bushing I made. So initial was 22 and it started and idled fine. I ended up limitin...

Re: Aluminum 409" W-series blocks - any experience?
There are 434+ stroker kits around for the 348 blocks. He could have some big inches from one of his less desirable blocks and save the 409's for some high zoot resto builds. The last 348 I did I used SHOWCARS for some parts and info. I couldn't sell the customer on the stroker but they have lots of...

Re: 454 valve spring rotators/ shims
I, personally, have never seen a rotator fail. In your HD application with moderate lift and spring pressure, I see using them at worst neutral and probably a positive.

Re: Going from 23 degree to Brodix 18x; anybody ?
NO! The question was...I AM doing this for the customer whose mind is made up. Can anyone who HAS done this offer some insight? Answers like yours "The answer was, use some real 18 degree heads." is an answer to a question that wasn't asked and wastes space on a thread where actual knowled...

Re: Hydraulic roller lifters
I just had the same problem with a set of COMP hyd. roller lifters for a Pontiac. Date code showed them to be slightly over a year old. Adjusted really nice, but by the time I got back to #1 EVERY lifter had collapsed and stuck to the bottom, leaving the same problem as has been described. Had the h...

Re: Auto Mechanics books for Tweenagers
Kids that age and even older see the car as a "lifetime" away according to their life clock. The most successful class I ever did for freshmen level students revolved around a model called "The Visible V-8." I think it's still available. It not only teaches the operation of an en...

Re: Comp cams short travel lifters
Just had a first time experience with Comp hyd. roller lifters. I'm of the "don't wash" for most of the reasons stated. Noticed during inspection the push rod cups were hard or pumped up which I found somewhat unusual but not a problem. Ran through the firing order, adjusting the lifters t...

Hey, it's patina! How you ever going to get patina on the hot rod if you don't give it a place to grow?...and those sand rakes come in coarse, medium and fine, Dave, depending on your preference.

Maybe not quite as entertaining as the political stuff, but it's amusing to an AZ kid to listen you ya' all go on and on about mowers and grass.

Re: When did fitted pins become standard?
"As far as fitting the pin yourself... reaming or honing are downright ghetto procedures compared to a proper roller-burnished or ball-broached bore. Slide the pin out of any high quality piston and look at the pin bore; it will be an almost shiny gray color from the burnisher." From a dis...
