I have several LJ Sbc rears mains. They are probably all coated, I'll look in the morning. May have a few uncoated.

Re: bbc oil pressure

I had a guy call me ont night and said his oil pressure had just dropped after running several nights. The filter was good. I told him to pull the line going to the gage and look for silicone. Sure enough there was a piece at the gage. Problem solved. Doesn't happen all of the time but worth worth a...

Re: SB2 Valves

I did that once to try and save a friend some bucks. I put new stainless valves and new Isky Tool Room springs, $400. The first night out out it broke one intake spring and shortened the free length on all of the other intakes .075". This was on a dirt late model turning 8500. Lesson learned. M...

Re: High pressure / high volume oil pump

I guess Chevrolet, the people that designed the SBC, doesn't really know what they are doing. They put a HV pump in all of their 604 crate motors with a stock pan. I'll take a little too much oil pressure any day over not enough.

Re: Main bore align honing

Normally this happens when the thrust bearing wears out. It allows the crank to move forward and hit the first thing in the way. Yours doesn't look like it in the pic but it could have been cleaned up to where it doesn't show.

Re: Can't align Torque Converter bolts with Flex-plate Holes

I don't know your specific situation but on early C4s I worked on you had to have the studs for the converter in the holes on the flywheel when you pull them together. The offset in the flywheel keeps you from turning the converter like you can with a Chevy. The converter is all the way back but you...

Re: deck clearance question

You are WAY over thinking this. It's not going to make a difference either way. I would run a standard .039-.041 gasket. There is no reason to run .035 quench on a motor like this other than to say I'm running .035 quench. It's your motor so do as you like but it's not going to hurt anything and if ...

Re: Vacuum pumps and oil pressure

My opinion is the pressure is what the gage sees. Of course the pressure falls when you put vacuum to it. The vacuum isn't pulling only on the suction side of the pump it's also pulling at every outlet on the pressure side i.e., at all of the rods, mains, and lifters. At what point does it cause a p...

I had a hone like that years ago. I tried using an off brand cheaper oil one time. You should be able to get Sunnen in France and I wouldn't use anything else.

Re: Crank Thrust Surface Troubleq

It did not need a radius to clear the crank as the I.d. Is larger than the radius on the crank. Didn't really need chamfer on either end as this is the front side of the cap and normally the force on the bearing is from the rear but I know you new that from your keen eye to detail. The fix lasted un...
