Sounds like the engine heat was boiling the fuel in the carb and/or fuel line. Maybe look at the fuel line routing and heat shielding under the carb.88bluestar wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 7:51 pm Carb was loading up after main events according to the guy I got the car from.

Re: Need some expert cam terminology to explain OEM regrinding
Based on my experience, if your regrind is using the same master as the original, the differences will be small if the amount ground off is small, like .010" or so. There should be no lift difference, just a small change to the duration. I know that the same roller master ground on a SBF cam wi...

Re: Hypothetical Dyno Question
Yes, there will be large differences. A dyno setup like you describe only has some use for a single session for tuning / hardware swap testing, similar to a chassis dyno, eg only good when your changes result in pretty large (+-15 HP) or larger. Come back the next day and your results will be differ...

... The A/F numbers are wonky because they are calculated with the CFM # the air turbine gives. ^^^^^^^^ THIS IMO Not Lean.. If this was stack injection and you did not have an airflow meter providing a number, looking at the BSFC and exhaust temps, still a little rich for max power. Plug readings ...

Fueltech engine management,4x mototron coils NGK R6252K-105 plugs with 0,3mm gap Running on metanol and 3,2bar of boost. In my limited experience with high boost, I would guess your ignition is not up to the task. That seems like a very small plug gap, so spark exposure to mixture is limited, which...

Re: Brad Penn NLA?
This is disappointing news. I looked over the web site and it looks like most of the oil they are pushing is synthetic, nothing wrong with that per se, but Should we be concerned? Yes, I believe that when a brand changes hands the product also changes to please the profit margins of the new owners. ...

Re: Persistent worn cam lobes DOHC
I wonder what you thought as to the causes of this?...It has plagued these engines for many years now, yet no-one has come up with a suitable explanation as to why it happens, ....it effects the original cams and also replacement (iron) ones too if swapped with no other parts changed. From your inf...

[Shimming rocker stands , as I 've been doing. Starting with .020 and getting to .040 on all. Be aware that a much smaller shim is required at the mount point (center of rocker) to get a preload change,. .020" rocker height change is around .030" or so at the lifter. You might want to sta...

Re: Gear Drives
Years ago we used to install some Van Dyne Engineering gear drives in some off road truck racing engines, the quality and durability seemed to be very good, as far as I know they never had a problem through many endurance races including the 1000. I don't know if they make one for an AMC, but you ca...

Shift at 6800, trap at 7300. Car weighs 3335lbs. Years ago I had some discussion with a rod manufact...

Re: 427 SBF Intake Reccomendations
Well, I found out more today. The cam timing gear had been installed without a thrust washer... had some serious end play. Got the cam out, and I am hoping for a little help identifying the cam. It had numbers engraved on the rear of the cam TF551403001 and 4422 2or3 / 8 I believe this is a TFS 514...

Re: Switching to efi and need guidance
I can only pass on my experience with a similar racing requirement, for me it was endurance racing on road courses of 6 -12- 24 hour races. The team I was building engines for initially used EFI Technology for ECU, but later switched to Motec. We were happier overall with the Motec, and from a relia...

Re: Cam Doctor specs from Crane, '08-11 Dodge 4.7
Can anyone make sense of this cam spec card from Crane? The told the guy that sent the cams in to be speced that they had a 114.5 LSA, but on this cam card it seems to say 110.2 LSA? Also says 110.2 centerline. I'm not good enough at reading these yet to understand everything. Supposed to be .510 I...
