Re: Cylinder bore tight on skirt sides LS blocks

modok wrote: Tue Sep 05, 2023 12:23 am What you describe is backward from normal. Normally bores are tighter by the pin and looser by the thrust.
This is because the expansion of aluminum head on the iron block, and also just the thrust force.
That's why I thought it was odd, it's the opposite on what would call normal.

Cylinder bore tight on skirt sides LS blocks

Hey Guys got a question I been boring a handful of 5.3 LS Iron blocks lately and noticed that 90% of them are tighter on the skirt sides of the bores yet the pin sides are usually .001 -.002 loose with a bunch of scuffing on the piston skirts. What got me going on this circle was I usually do a scra...

Re: Bronze wall guid liners in bronze guides

Curious but has anyone ever installed thin wall bronze liners in a bronze guide. Got a set of heads here that the guides have been profiled and really hate to replace the worn out guides and change the flow characteristics if just doing liners would work. Yes, hundreds upon hundreds if not more. To...

5.7 hemi rocker / lifter oiling

(wife's car so getting accurate on when it happens is a little sketchy) Anyhow car been getting hard to start and intermittent stalling, ruled out fuel pressure ...

Re: Jeg's Hydraulic Lifters USA Made

probably like everything else, actually made in china, final assembly here=made in America. #-o The law about that states ... 55% of the total product must be made in the United States of America to garner the "Made in USA" label. I think that is about to be changed to 75%. Since China ha...

I thought about that, ( I still have my old chip burner somewhere too) going that route adds 400.00 + to the cost and trying to keep this as economical as possible but using up as much spare parts as I have.

88 TBI build ideas, opinions

Wanted to get some input / opinions. I inherited an 88 burb 4x4 with a worn out 5.7, been tossing around the idea of tossing a cast crank short rod 383 stroker in it and runing a stock 94 lt1 cam, or just going back stock rebuild and using the lt1 cam. Basically trying to clean out the shop of spare...

Do they show what the max spec is on wall taper, wear etc. Trying to decide should I bore it or just get stock size and run it a little loose, my gut says go .020 and be done with it. Wife wants it done yesturday lol I w...

Re: Gen III 5.7 hemi build advice needed

Talk about carnage dam.. You wouldn't know what the factory bore specs are. Mtchell is showing me 3.920 +/- .0015. Web hunting is showing 3.971. Thats a .051 diff and that looks way off to me. Yet the top of my bore (no ring wear lip) is 3.971 and the loosest part is the 3.920. doing the coin toss ...
