Re: Time to build New SBF

A professionally built N351 cylinder head will turn 10000 RPM's. There are some N351 head engines in NHRA Super Stock Modified class doing so and one held the national record too. I am impressed with the N heads I have now with 310ci @ 8500. I don't know who I could send them to for port work even ...

Re: Time to build New SBF

You didn't want to keep using the n351s? I was talking to another guy on this board and he said the newer castings have bigger ports than older castings. Like as big as a high port 240 or even 250. I couldn't believe it myself when he first told me but seems like the n351s, especially the newer cas...

Re: Time to build New SBF

Great job pushing those stock parts! My buildup is somewhat similar and just figured I'd add a couple of random thoughts on the matter. I'm not sure what math your engine builder was using to calculate piston speeds?.. but using rough math gives you well over a 2/1 rod ratio. So, a 2.7 x 5.9 x .950...

Re: Time to build New SBF

I hope this guy got it all figured out since his last post in May of '13. No I haven't decided on anything. All I have is the big bore SVO boss block. If the old engine at 3000 pounds will run 9.90s after I finish this intake http://i536.photobucket.com/albums/ff329/d64falcon/11062.jpg I will build...

Re: Time to build New SBF

Curious- how did your builder keep the block from splitting apart? Or was this a non-Ford 302 block? My Combo use to Vibrate bad to where I had wheels and drive shaft rebalanced. the next year we internally balanced the short block and vibrations went away. took as much weight as possible opposite ...

Re: Time to build New SBF

Hi Darrell, Didn't you have homeported 351 W heads with 2" intake valves on your set up prior to the current heads? If so, how did you determine the 2"Intake x 1.58? exhaust valve sizing? Thanks. Yes that's correct. I had 2" valve I wanted to use and had to turn the 1.600's down for ...

Nhrastocker! Your the reason I looked up that crankshaft :) My best guess is the combo in the car makes about 550 hp around 7800 Give details on this motor combination please It's a .040 over 302 with flat top NMRA pistons from diamond, unported 351n heads, camshaft is just under .700 lift and in t...

Time to build New SBF

The engine in my 67 Mustang scares me, because of that I dont race it much. Stock block, stock crank, stock rods with 351n heads. 7000 stall, shift @ 8500, finishline @ 8600. I have some Money to build something new. I have a new boss 4.125 block but not enough money to buy the best of the best Cran...

Battery Recommendation

Im looking to change the Battery in my Drag only car. Small block with MSD 6, thinking of changing to digital 7. Will have trans brake next year and no altenator. This car has used 160# CAT 8d batteries for over 30 years. I dont mind using it as ballast to keep the car at 3000# but I want that 9.99 ...

Re: Too much coolant flow myth

My own experiance from 20 years ago: 67 Cougar 289, C4. Daily driver and street bracket racer, one - two times a week. The thermastat stuck closed one day and started to overheat so i took it out. With no stat the motor ran cool. I thought lets see how it runs at the track. Next day, 10 mile drive(f...

Re: 5.9 long rod in a 8.2 SBF? am I dreaming?

The class I will be running is a 10.50 or more lbs. per cubic with a 3,000 lbs. minimum, including the driver’s weight. Since I will be running an automatic transmission, I am allowed to remove up to 5% or 250 lbs., whichever is less, from the regular class weight and can be under the minimum weigh...
