GM 12555331 vs 12363757 Intake Valve 2.0" x 0.343"

GM Valves.jpg GM Valve Photo.jpg I've had some good luck with the GM 12555331 IN and 12551313 EX valves. They are light weight and have good flow numbers. I have not tried (or seen) the GM 12363757 IN or 12363758 EX valves. Does anyone have any experience with them and know the typical weights of t...

Re: Piston skirt protrusion at BDC

Check the amount of piston "rock" at BDC on the lowest point on the piston skirt. If it is in the range of 0.050" or more, you may have ring seal issues and oil usage..

Re: Deep scratch- GM 454/438hp roller cam

I’m currently don’t have the cam to see but i think it was the closing side. The scratch is fairly deep. Very noticeable with the thumb nail. Don’t know the lifter travel but used these lifters on another more aggressive cam for a few years and no issues. Is there a way to check to see if there’s l...

Re: Deep scratch- GM 454/438hp roller cam

Is the mark on the opening side or closing side of the lobe?

Approximately how deep is the scratch/mark?

Do you know how much lifter travel the Howard's lifters have?

I ran across a similar problem on some air boat engines (540 cid BBC, 6000 max. RPM).

I suspect the "7" is actually a "T" If so, the decoding of the engine is: K = St. Catherines, Ontario Engine Plant Build Date: 04 = April 24 = 24 day TXD = 1975 350 cid conv.cab pickup VIN L LS9 165 HP 4 BBL. C-20 to 3500 According to the factory published 1975 literature the LS9...

Re: NHRA STOCK valve job

Any "cut" that is concentric with the valve guide is legal.

No grinding marks, must be cutter marks. The "cut" can extend into the combustion chamber or below the valve angles.

Any number of angles and any angles are allowed.

Re: Mill cylinder head/seat work without pilot

While I appreciate machining valve seats as accurately as possible, if you consider that the valve temperatures and seat temperature are in the 600F to 1500F range, and with spring loads in the 90 lb. to 800 lb. range, it would seem that the thermal distortions are way beyond the need to have seats ...

I worked at an OEM and we had a SEM that would identify the chemistry of the metals. Re: Why haven't we moved to higher DC voltages?

I worked for an OEM in R&D for a few years. We worked on the 36V & 42V systems for a while in 1999~2003. One of the big problems we faced was arcing in switches, causing them to NOT meet the durability specifications. Other suppliers (AC, window regulator, radio,...…) reported problems as we...

I got it from McMaster Carr I believe. It's mainly a oil level- temp sight glass for a hydraulic tank for various types of machines. So you would rather crawl under your car instead of using a dipstick? Tom Not a big deal to get on my hands and knees and peek thru the rear of the front tire. Also I...

Re: Any mathematics gurus that can figure a real world problem?.

If you look at the equation for "period"/time, you will note the "L" (rope length) in the numerator of the square root function. As "L" increases, "T" (time) increases. Aerodynamics will play a small role, but almost insignificant when compared to the gravitat...

What additional items would the school have to purchase to make the dyno fully functional and could you give a rough estimate of the cost of the additional items?
