Re: 472 & 500 Cadillac Engine Tales

No they are a very well cast high nickel block but light weight so no extra where they did not want it .. the good news is it only weights a bit more then a small block Chevy when you are done ... the CAD company makes a girdle for the bottom that some work to do for most but bet not for you ... als...

Re: 472 & 500 Cadillac Engine Tales

That one was a roots blower 7 lbs of boost ... camshaft and rockers ..ported oe heads ... The upper limit on these is the main caps ... this one had cap walk fretting and that was with arp studs ... some guys build better cap support ... The high cid and stroke make them a torque beast so most go in...

Re: 472 & 500 Cadillac Engine Tales

Not a bad motor ... I have been building them for 30 years ... stock is 13 degree valve angle but you need to fix the port entrance .. main caps can use some help as power goes up ...it needs better valve train.. a good intake helps alot ... I like it as building a BBC is to easy and you don't learn

Re: Water injection

If you're using EFI, in particular the speed density variant of EFI, it's really not compatible with water injection due to the way it works (Cooling the charge in the manifold increases the density, but the computer has no way of knowing how much by) . It's going to lean out the AFR when it turns ...

Re: Water injection

Water in all likelihood would be lucky to vaporize in the intake on NA motor ... I think this is why the mix works well ... methanol cools the charge ... water cools the cylinder ... both slow down the burn .... I have always seen better results from mix then just water .. slowing down the burn mea...

Re: Cam id help please

If you really need good numbers on it toss it in a block with a degree wheel and plot it out .. then it doesn't matter who made it

Re: MAX. effort pistons--Forged vs. Billet

What the alloy is matters ..... NA HP is nicer then nos or boost HP I have pushed even cast steel strut OE pistons hard but it's like running a 20 amp fuse on a 20 amp draw any mistakes and it burns .... Then there is coatings There is a lot to pistons when you look at all that and weight ..skirt......

Re: Water injection

NACA went away in 1958 so you are talking old research... and my first worry about that much water would be corrosion. My next thought is you are talking about power levels in very crude big inefficient cylinders of the aircraft of the day that are not anywhere like what we run today ... anything I ...

Re: How to set and hold valve lift on a flow bench?

It's been said that testing at even only 5" at high lift will give a representation of what's going on, comments anyone? Depression of over 120" have been seen at low lifts on very high rpm motors as I have read. A flowbench is designed to measure airflow in a calibrated manner ... do not...

Re: Water injection

the water does take up space, that otherwise could be occupied by air and fuel. but does contribute to piston push some on the power stroke as steam expands. The intercooler adds weight and can suffer from hot soak. The water also adds a buffer action being between combustable molecules, to keep co...

Re: Water injection

Controlling charge temperature does a lot for detonation control .... on roots blowers no intercooler high drive ratio you will add heat as your efficiency drops with blower speed ..... on a turbo with intercooler at low boost the intercooler will keep the temperature down and you will not need the ...

Re: How to set and hold valve lift on a flow bench?

You can always use a height mic on the valve to set lift for the flow test ..... I do this on heads that don't fit my opener..

Re: Flow bench results

One thing being overlooked on SBC wave tuning is that most modern as cast parts have been designed with that factored in within the constraints of fitment, to fine tune that you would have to go to custom fabricated intake which is not legal in many racing bodies because of the possibility of domin...

Re: Cam id help please

I need some cam id help please. SBC, stamp on it is CHS 319 328 R10 S7770 looks like a 7 stamped over the 0 BC small numbers are 222000. I googled the hell out of it, no luck. Anybody know what it is. Thanks guys I would say it's a crane solid roller 319/328 advertised duration on a 110 lobe center...
