How is that done? What's the procedure?
Years ago I had a motor that was pulling air thru what would have been an oil leak.Hurt the motor.
How do you suspect the air leak harmed the motor? I'm guessing dirt?

Re: Engine Horsepower qustions??

I'm really not clear on what you are trying to figure out. A 600 hp engine in a street car will only produce 20 or 30 hp while cruising down the freeway at 60 mph since that it all of the power that it takes to push a car down the road at 60 mph. If you come to a hill then the power level will incr...

Re: Engine Horsepower qustions??

So what you are saying is a engine in neutral and you rev it up to say 6500 it is making a 1000 hp in neutral? My understanding of physics is that torque and hp come from applying a force. Without this force there is no torque? I know the engine has the potential of the 1000 hp what the clutch is l...

Re: Dry Sump - where to plumb gauge for reading vacuum?

I believe if you have the valve covers going to a vent the motor will not pull a vacuum.I drill and tap the intake valley floor for a gauge.I have ran motors on the dyno that would pulley 6 0r 7 lbs, added a vent ,and saw no difference in hp. Ok, and the "vent making null any vacuum" make...

Re: Engine Horsepower qustions??

Yes that makes since but my first qustion was answered that a car in neutral spins is not making no hp cause the load is not applied. So in theory if the load applied to a engine to produce the hp is removed or in the case partly removed the hp output will chance? A car that brakes traction on a wh...

Re: Engine Horsepower qustions??

I believe a simple way of looking at this is: the HP is either utilized to do work or its wasted out the tail pipe in non utilized work. So in general, the motor makes whatever hp it makes at a given RPM; that HP is either transferred into work that can be measured or it is sent out the tail pipe in...

Dry Sump - where to plumb gauge for reading vacuum?

A post was made before regarding dry sump performance and essential said: it is possible to know that a dry sump is evacuating all the oil from the sump if the pump is maintaining a vacuum. (Three stage pump with both suction lines on the sump.) The idea being that if the pickup was covered over by ...

Re: Fast Fuel Injection Systems Who Running them

Dave, I'm a DIY road racer who ran carbureted forever, then tried the "EZ" EFI offered by both MSD and FAST. The EZ systems work for lots of guys, but when they are a poor fit for a build for whatever the reason, there is little you can do to adjust your way out of the problem. Both the EZ...

Yes, I think you are right, one of the top lines to the rectangular tank appears to be water, maybe even two of them. It's likely a safe bet to be a heat exchanger rather than a dry sump oil tank.

Re: Air/oil separator- Spintric

I agree with following and using methods that have proven successful (i.e. NASCAR), which is why I was going to place a round 12 qt tank behind the roll hoop. But then while looking, reading, and continuing to educate myself I came across a successfully raced Shelby GT350 with what appears to be a r...

Air/oil separator- spindric

http://spintric.com/ I'm considering a 10qt Canton rectangular oil tank, with four stages of air removal, for use on the Aviaid dry sump I will be using. The car is a road race '66 Mustang with a 331 CI SBF, making 570 @ flywheel. I was considering a 12 qt round unit mounted behind the roll bar, but...

Is this the car you really want to make fast? I know it's the car you guys have, but maybe this one just needs to sound fast and buying one with fewer chains tied to fewer stumps would return more bang for the buck. Just a thought. Have fun.
