Re: Hot stock bbc intake
If you're familiar with the "F.A.S.T." series of racing, Jordan Pennington is running a 560" BES built big block in a `67 Corvette that made a tick over 1,000 HP on Bischoff's dyno running an L88 intake--and that's through OEM cast iron Corvette exhaust manifolds. I've personally made...

FWIW, Offenhauser still offers that intake base & top.
Offenhauser 5893 base
Offenhauser 5903 top
Holley 4224 660 center squirters have been discontinued for a while now but can still be found on everyone's favorite auction site.

Re: pontiac build
Cliff Ruggles has done extensive dyno testing on Pontiac intakes, and I believe he's found the factory dual plane to be superior to pretty much everything on a <5500 rpm build.
You can probably google it and find all the details, or it may even be posted over on his forum.

Re: pontiac build
16 heads are great for the street, but watch overall compression when you spec the replacement pistons as Pontiacs are prone to rattle on pump gas past roughly 10-1. FWIW; 30 years ago a good friend had a bone stock `70 400 with 16 heads (edit) and a factory Pontiac RA III cam in his `76 T/A--stock ...

Re: 434 SBC Clearance Issues.
Would using a crank with 1.88" rod journals provide any worthwhile clearance relief?--or would that result in an insufficient overlap issue with the crank itself?

Permatex Teflon paste p/n 80631, 1 oz. tube, should be available at any decent parts house for <$10.00 a tube.

Re: Holley carb question
...Removing the choke plate and shaft from the choke horn is worth about 3 to 4 cfm increase. Less than most would think. FWIW, not necessarily 100% applicable to this particular application; During an A/B test on the dyno, removing the choke blade & shaft on a 4781 850 was worth right at 10 HP...

Re: Whatever happened to tall-deck 427" BBCs?
What the truck tall decks offer in deck height they are restricted by the oil gallery placement for building over 4.375" strokers. With that restriction there is no advantage going with the mark IV truck block. I have personally put a 4.75" stroke crankshaft with a smaller journal using a...

Re: Current Scat/Eagle crank quality
I haven't used a SCAT crank recently, but the last one I did use was just about spot-on right out of the box. Although I do prefer SCAT over Eagle, due to unavailability at the time, I had to purchase a 4.375" BBC Eagle crank last year for a personal project (572" truck engine). Other than...
