Re: Intake performance modifications.
You should understand that neither factory iron manifold will even with some port and matching work never quite flow what the Edelbrock 2161 will flow. The port volumes on the Edelbrock are just bigger. If you take the GM iron 350-360 HP Holley carb version 3866948 and open the carb flange openings...

Re: Intake performance modifications.
Sounds like you want to get the most out of the stock type iron intake and look stock from the outside. See if you can read up on what the F.A.S.T. ( Factory Appearing Stock Tire) guys are doing. I believe there are several running the 396/ 350 type setups in Chevelles. Thanks, I'll look into F.A.S...

Re: Intake performance modifications.
Your correct in it being a nicely performing street engine. ( To which there are no complaints.) The 2-o intake and 800dp was what Pat had to use. It's just that I did an 454 for someone else that had the same heads w/o the pocket porting and a 230/230 .050 .520/.520 cam and a Performer RPM intake t...

Re: Intake performance modifications.
Cutting down the divider will help WOT power, but with these type of shallow Plenum Intakes it can really screw with the part and mid throttle metering! It cost more then grinding work , but a bigger size Carb is the best way to go on average. You would be surprised how big of a Carb you can get aw...

Re: Intake performance modifications.
Can you give a little more information on your build such as camshaft and cylinder heads and such? Just changing a moderate manifold change like this may not yield anymore if the whole induction system and camshaft specs. are not taken into consideration. 454 .030 oversize. L2399 pistons (8.8-1 ) 7...

Intake performance modifications.
I have a moderately built 454 running a Eddy Performer 2-o w/open adapter plate and Holley 800dp. I think the 2-o intake is limiting the engine and it would like a RPM. ( opened ports on the 2-o to match the heads, from the cast peanut openings ) I was looking at the factory 3931067 high rise intake...

Rear control arm adjustment.
I have a 65' GM a-body that is street/strip. I'd like to move the I/C back for the rear suspension without going down. Which would involve moving the lower arm not the upper, if I am understanding things correctly. Rather than lowering the rear of the arm, I'd like to raise the front. Does anyone ma...

Re: 400 SBC crankshaft
Past experience has shown the stock block to be the weak link; when we were forced by rules to run them in circle track applications doing the half fill and splayed cap drill only delayed the failures. The stock maincap bulkheads failed before anything else. I'd be looking for an aftermarket block....

Re: Manley valves
Pontiac 1.77" exh valves came in 3 lengths, depending on the heads they were used in. 4.98", 5.1" & 5.2". Looks like I have 8 of the 5.2's, Plan is to set up some peanut ports for 11/32 stems and will use them for the exhaust enlarging from the 1.72 and using small block che...

Manley valves
I have acquired a set of Manley valves and am trying to determine if they are an intake or exhaust material. I have no idea what the original application is for them, (possibly Pontiac exhaust) they are 11/32 stems and 1.77-78" dia. On the end of the stem it has ( MANLEY K-HB ). Anyone know wha...

Re: BBC iron oval intake
Things look pretty good. Took a tape measure to the 3931067 and the RPM and they are basically twins other than the RPM has about a 1/2" taller overall height. With the discussed modifications and 1" spacer it should perform well. Intended combination: 2 bolt 454 Mark IV block (.030 ) Cast...

Re: BBC iron oval intake
I am also going to mention the L-29 heads! They are true large oval, although smallish, Like 230 or so cc's vs the larger like 255 to 260 cc regular large oval heads, PP's are down around 200 cc's or so if not mistaken. L-29's also have a 100 cc, fast burn heart-shaped chamber that will probably ne...

Re: BBC iron oval intake
I would use the 2-0 intake. They are much better then the iron intake. I just finished a 454 oval port build with 781 heads and the stock aluminum snow flake intake which looks the same as the Edelbrock performer was about 70 hp better then the tall iron intake with a Q-jet carb. Took a bit to tune...
