Re: HEADBYTES
Digging up an old post for sure but I know headbytes vanished and left a lot of pissed off customers at the end. I discovered this pass summer he got into an argument with his neighbor and shot and killed her then was shot by police when they showed up and later died. A pretty wild ending for ole he...

Re: Trying to pick out the right 8" balancer for my 350.
Dorman does not have the best reputation in the industry. I have had good luck with either Pioneer or Powerbond. I just got a Powerbond one for a 355 I am building. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/pbb-pb1046n The one you are looking at for the 70s-80s truck probably has the timing mark at the 12...

Trying to pick out the right 8" balancer for my 350.
Got parts rounded up to rebuild my 350 that spun a rod bearing and thinking about going to an 8" balancer per David Vizards recommendations. What I have is a 638 casting 1pc rear main block, using a Summit racing house brand 3.48 crank, changing the rods to the later powdered metal vortec rods ...

who has put ls valves in an sbc head?
have a set of 081 305 heads i'm porting but also bought a pair of 317 6.0 heads for $50 for a youtube experiment. I am impressed how nice the factory valves are, factory back cut intakes and a tulip shaped exhaust got me thinking on using a set of the smaller 4.8/5.3 1.89 intake valves and then the ...

350 rebuild/ piston weight calculation right or wrong?
spun a rod bearing on my 1990 L98 shortblock in my monte carlo, decided not to go to a 383 since i was happy how it ran before it ate itself and after a fb marketplace find and some internet research this is my plan, got a vortec 305 in running condition that i will use the crank and then also it ha...

Re: 540 build for a boat, update- 509 now.
update- Ordered some parts yesterday, ordered a set of icon forged pistons, .030 over with a 17cc dome, on back order for 30 days but couldnt find them sooner elsewhere or in a different brand, set of summit racing floating pin connecting rods, the promaxx 317 heads, with recommended arp head bolts ...

Re: 540 build for a boat
Some updates now, just got around to tearing down some over the weekend, still std bore, going 509 now instead of 540 and use the savings towards upgrading to a roller cam, been doing some reading over at offshoreonly also. A favorite cam of them guys is the crane 168741 which is 236/244 .610/.632 1...

Re: 540 build for a boat
Its a bravo 1 outdrive, stock it ran 4800rpm max, its an early 502 mag, 2pc rear main, 224/224 flat tappet cam, qjet intake and carb 390hp is what they rated it at, maybe it could be more but its rated at less than 9:1 compression

540 build for a boat
buddy wants to build up the 502 in his boat, before I start this will not be a high dollar build. boat is a early 90s 27' formula, engine is rated at 390hp, casting # is 10051107 which i found out to be a mark iv 2pc bowtie block. plan is to replace the top end, put in a 540 kit and a little bit big...

for the ones that watched it what was your take on it? Were you surprised the shorter rods made more power?

Re: low buck junk SBC
416 or 081 has same chamber size as a L98 / zz4 head, main thing is gotta be a factory dish piston engine, with 58cc chambers and a .020 steel head gasket you should be at 9.8- 9.9:1 compression, shouldnt be an issue for premium if quech is decent. if you wanted to lower it a tad to play safe probab...

Re: 305 head flow possibilities?
I seen the brzezinski article on losing flow with 1.94 valves but i was curious about what if a person put 8mm liners in a 305 head and used 1.89 and 1.55 valves out of an early 4.8 or 5.3 head?
