Re: Spring retainer OD way smaller than spring OD?
Yes its more common than you'd think. Just another way of selling you less of something and trying to convince you your getting more. I've been having hard time finding the bigger or Correct size titanium retainers here lately. Seems every time you get really good and satisfied with something somebo...

Re: Where to install cam
If it's limited circle track heavy car it may need a lot of advance (depending). You could try a cranking compression test where you've got it installed now and retard it a couple degrees at a time while rechecking compression. A lot of work but will give you more understanding. How is it performing ...

Retard camshaft 2 degrees and try increasing ignition timing 2-4 degrees.

Re: Cranking Pressure concern
Somethings not right? Recently checked cranking compression on very similar build 414ci 14.5 sbc which i checked several times just for maintenance and to record and without looking it up i think all cylinders were very close to 270 or so on average and stayed consistent during service over time. Th...

Re: break away torque short block
Don't know if you can use this as comparison but i just checked 4.125 x 3.875 stroke 415 .043x.043 LT oil and it came in at 10lbs with just short block,no damper or accessories,no flywheel. Not sure of accuracy of this old beam type wrench but should be close.

Re: Excessive oil pressure
You may have bad oil pressure gauge? Bought brand new auto meter 4421 pro comp last year installed on new motor, fire engine oil pressure was good, gauge dropped back down to 50 lbs at idle shut it off and it's still there. Just checked, its still holding 50 lbs in the box! Didn't even do a return,just...

Re: What set of SBC 6.0 rods has the best cam clearance for 383
Trying to get away from using small base circle cam on SBC 383. What set of SBC 6.0 rods under $750 a set would help me achieve my goal. I been looking at the Compstar H beam, Manley H beam, Scat Pro Comp, lunati voodoo stroker rods 70160003-8 (hard to come by right now 1 to 3 months away)., also n...

Re: Engine block surfacing
PCV valve hose may be routed to intake or carburetor. I said carburetor in previous post but could be just as likely going to intake manifold. Had one pulling oil directly from pcv to intake once that was causing a little smoking and finally fouling a couple of plugs and like your's most of the head...

Re: Engine block surfacing
No oil was being pulled the pcv that I could see when I took the intake off there was oil sitting in some of cylinder head bowls. If pcv valve hose to carb was dry your OK. If it was wet and soggy there's your problem. Seen it happen before, and i was replacing intake gaskets and valve seals only t...

Re: Engine block surfacing
If you have a pcv valve pull off hose at carburetor and see if hose is wet with oil.If so it's pulling oil thru pcv system. If so there's a lot of options to fix.
