Re: Historical question: Countrclockwise rotation engines?
We had a Tugboat in the Sea Explorers in the 60s With a Direct Reversing Enterprise 2 stroke Diesel it was not uncommon in early tugs etc. eliminating the need for a gearbox. This video is pretty cool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhozHs7awMIr Dave B Newer Bombardier snowmobiles have the engine ...

Re: Prayers For Alfie
IMO, it is unethical to keep the child alive and suffering because of the parents wishes. Should the parents be able to make the call to get him transferred out of country, or should that decision be left up to a doctor? In this case, they had the support of doctors elsewhere, so maybe the grounds w...

Re: That hurt Fellas. We lost a BIG Friend
Damn, I remember a article from the 80's or early 90's that was titled Horsepower vs.Torque vs. Durability. They asked three pros how they like to build their engines. Big Joe was horsepower. He said, use a stock block, crank and resized rods, put your effort and $ into the heads! If the bottom blo...

Re: Engine Masters 350 vs 351w shootout
As far as a Cleveland humiliating a Chevy.... Folks should try & find a copy of the Feb 1969 PHR. That was right at the height of the muscle car era. PHR staff obtained showroom cars with all the popular small blocks, pulled the box stock engines & dynoed them to see if they actually made t...

Re: Mini Valve spring tester
I have one of the mini ones, when it’s put under pressure the gauge climbs, then drops a bit. I think it’s caused by an air bubble in the hydraulic cylinder...it builds heat as the pressure increases, then cools immediately and the pressure drops a bit causing the gauge to drop. I don’t trust it at ...

Re: Chinese juuk?????
A couple of years ago I ordered a new motherboard for my home computer on eBay, it was shipped from Shanghai. Big surprise when I got it, it came in a fancy looking box that looked like it came from a local electronics store, except the writing was Chinese. Bigger surprise, the English translations ...

Re: Which Is Faster - 600hp@6200 or 600hp@7100
one might correctly draw the conclusion that the rpm of peak hp doesn't matter and that its only the hp the engine produces at the time, and if with a different gearbox with only a few ratios it did produce different results then it would be something else causing this e.g. a higher rpm engine is o...

Diesel...one thing I’ve noticed is it doesn’t give me headaches or get me stoned like mineral spirits, plus it’s cheap.

Wash the block with solvent (mineral spirits), the rinse with hot water, then blow dry with compressed air. Then wipe machined surfaces with rag soaked in wd40.

Re: Rigid hand hone acceptably good outcome?
I have the same hone, and I've used Jb weld to repair stones, it does work.Pablo wrote:I'm using sealed power e-251k moly rings.
One of the stones is cracked in two, half of it is off the holder. I suppose it's possible to JB weld the thing back on there and dress it to make it flat. What do you guys think?

Re: Grease for Exhaust Heat Riser
If you have the GM lube that's black that's really about the best stuff to use. We used to spray those down as part of a "tune up" long ago. Might spray it down with car door lock de-icer because it has graphite in it if not mistaken. Anything with graphite in it should work, imho.. pdq67...

Re: Anybody rebuild sioux stone holders?
Here's a Sioux 1702bb stone holder IMG_8506.JPG The cap on the top twists a bit (I used a small pipe wrench) and then comes off with a tap. There is a stack of wafers under the drive splines, held in place with a snap ring. The tube o.d. Is .500". The bearings sit up against the shoulders on th...
