Re: carburettor cleaning
I recently had to clean a pile of engine bolts, nuts, front covers, etc. I had used a mix of water and Purple Power but it got pretty dirty real fast. Rather than replenish the expensive solution I added two capsules of my wife's generic laundry detergent. Bingo!!! What a difference... now I have be...

Re: pretty good cam video
I remember walking the Dave Dayton Indy Thanksgiving Circle Track auction floor with Ron Neal of Prototype Racing Engines in the late 70's...before the widespread availability of aftermarket blocks. Neal was inspecting the cam tunnels on every SBC block on the floor. He explained how to look for a a...

Re: Can A SBM Crank Be Machined for a 1.88 Rod ?
Since this will require custom pistons anyway, might as well discuss a stroker. Are there any other clearance problems with a smaller rod big end swinging in a longer stroke? The Mopar Block can handle 4 1/8 " swing as a rule without grinding. These are 6.2" vs stock 6.123 so maybe an off...

Can A SBM Crank Be Machined for a 1.88 Rod ?
I have two sets of those Pankl Honda journal size rods that are NASCAR take-outs. I have a nice Mopar 340 sitting in my engine room that I have a home for. Has anyone here ground those 2.25 rod journals down to fit these 1.88 rods? Any issues with the oil holes ? If I can't get these to work I'm goi...

Re: SBF Dirt Track build questions
I recently got the green light from the wife to step up from production based dirt racing to a class similar to a DLM chassis with a 361 cube limit for two valve iron production based motors. 361 cu.in 1088kg's 2398.62lbs min weight 347 cu.in 1070kg's 2358.94lbs min weight Is it worth the effort to...

Thanks to all for their comments.
I haven't done a BBM in 50+ years but do have two small block projects in my shop.

Big Block Mopar Question
I have a pair of early 413 heads that I will be sending in soon for valve work. I'm keeping the 2.08/1.6 valves as this is a low buck build. I would like to run 11-1 compression. I will zero deck the block and I have flat top replacement slugs. I did a quick cc of one chamber and saw 68 sisi's (that...

Re: Radiators...what's the difference?
When Peterbilt designed the 370 series tractors in the 80's they wanted to produce a radiator that would cool high horsepower engine in desert heat for 1,000,000 miles. They chose a four row copper brass radiator. My to lasted over 1.5 million miles and never overheatedy engines.

Re: Source for small qty. of metal stitch pins...
I have a 413 Mopar block that has a freeze crack between two core plugs...seems to be a popular place for a crack. I'd like to buy some IronTite threaded plugs but I don't need a box of 100...where can I buy a smaller qty. (25?). Perhaps someone can sell me some spares? Looking closely the only lea...

Re: Source for small qty. of metal stitch pins...
I would think a .200 x 7/8 or so would work. It's a longer crack but very thin. I never saw it until it came back from cleaning and mag. I may hard block itto the top of the core plugs then repair it. It been since the 60's since I did this on a 324 Olds. My guess is I need 25 pins. I have brazed cr...
