Re: Classic Rivals Dyno Contest Needs A Ford Competitor
The person who was going to fill the Ford spot has had to back-out. We are looking for someone to fill this role. We also want to nail down a date for this October. The rules are on the web page RaceEngineChallenge.com. This contest is going to have one SBC, one SBF and one SBM. Maybe someday if th...

Re: Bronze guides/liners in "nailhead" Buicks
I used guide liners in very harsh conditions with xlnt results. Can't see any reason not to use them. People who have issues with guide liners didnt install them properly. In this day and age its hard to find valves that are compatible with iron guides. YES ... Valves with hard-chrome stems must be...

Re: Pontiac Super Duty 4-cyl 4-valve head in 1987?
Motor Trend recently dredged up this article: https://www.motortrend.com/features/pontiac-16-valve-cylinder-head-october-1987-982-1296-32-1/?eml=organic%3Aeml%3Abrz2%3A20240430%3Apontiac-16%3Aarticle%3AHRN&utm_source=braze&utm_medium=emaileditorial&utm_campaign=HRN We never raced in the...

] And it also doesn't help that we have sanctioning bodies like IMCA that do not allow you to bush the lifter bores. Typical rule makers, thinking they're saving their racers money. YES ... rules writers sometimes have no clue. In those instances, I'd have the lifter bores "trued" ...

Re: pretty good cam video
Also, lifter bore wear becomes an issue with 50 or 40 or even some 30 year old blocks. When the lifter falls over a thou or so, that face angle changes. It only take ONE lifter bore to be worn to far, to wipe out a camshaft. And it also doesn't help that we have sanctioning bodies like IMCA that do...

Re: pretty good cam video
Oh, the problem is "wobbelin" :D Watching that, is like listening to your Barber explain Cold Fusion. I sold those guys a roller cam back in 2014. I wish I knew they had a cam grinder. #-o You can't look at lobe taper or lifter crown as individual specs. For every lifter crown radius, the...

Re: Carb Tuning: IAB and Transition
Good Morning. Just joined. Question, instead of guessing and trial and error, what to change to smooth out the AFR from Idle up to Primary Jet kicks in? (cruising around). Smaller IFR and larger IAB? Either will lean than section however, the slope will be slightly different between the two.

Re: Filtration on the oil pan scavange lines
My question is simply this, how fine / restrictive is the norm for filtration in the Scavange lines from the pan to the Dry-Sump pump ? Thanks Mark H. That really depends upon the pump and whether it uses spur gears, gerotor, or twin lobe rotors. It will never hurt to use the simple screen inline f...

Re: Couple of questions on breaking in a new HFT cam
I've got a running but tired 351w that I plan on rebuilding this summer with a few minor upgrades...small cam, a little more compression, a little porting on the heads, etc. The engine doesn't have very good oil pressure, maybe 10-15 psi fully warmed up at idle and 25 psi at cruising speed. I have ...

Re: Hydraulic roller lifters for Pontiac... Hydraulic Cartridge Technology
I was going to go with the usual Morel 5884 and grind a slot for full time oiling to the band, and then my customer tells me he wants to run a set of Comp 85701-16 lifters with this new HCT technology. Can anyone please enlighten me here as to what this HCT is all about? I would use what that custo...

Re: Ford Cleveland NASCAR cylinder heads
I understand that during the 1990s Junior Johnson was involved in the development of a set of cylinder heads for the Cleveland engine for NASCAR application. They were unusual in that they featured straight inlet ports with the pushrods going through them (in somewhat analogous fashion to the famou...
