IIRC, the carbs were jetted grossly differently [rear only? been a long time...] because of
a fuel distribution issue due to manifold design, and the notch was part of the work-around.
Furthermore, again IIRC, it was an issue at WOT.

Re: 364 Buick question (Old guys, step up.....)
IIRC they had a rubber flat seal that sat on top of the spring retainer. Was an old
trick to use them on SBC's that were long in the tooth and the customer wanted a
$5 rebuild for worn out guides. Don't remember what year nail heads...

need a good diagnostician in phoenix
Just visiting Phoenix and my 2016 Mopar took a sudden dump, won't run, usual strange
selection of electronics warnings/issues, looks like either computer or TIPM related. Don't have
ANY tools here, so looking for a tech that can diagnose. Anyone know anybody??

spark plugs in the 21st century
I'm an artifact left over from the 70s-80s etc and well remember the points 'n plugs tune up era, where plugs really did deteriorate at short mileage. I remember drawing an early Nova with a 250 for a tuneup, where all 6 electrodes were well down into the porcelain [it ran great...well, it idled gre...

Re: Hot rod mag engine masters- Packard engine!
Don't know about which was better, Packard or R-R, but I do recall that Packard redrew all the R-R drawings and housebroke it ie adopted US customary fasteners, etc. Also, R-R was able to get quite a few scarce and in-demand US production machine tools, right out from under the noses of American air...

Re: Thinking out loud. Billet head with water jackets.
Twisting this cold weather daydream a bit, how about making a billet cylinder head then DRILLING the coolant passages afterwords? Seems to me there was/is a Japanese diesel tank engine made this way? Maybe it was the one with oil cooled block area and "water" cooled heads? I had some docum...

Re: Repco head.
"...Interestingly , the Rolls Royce Merlin Mk 1 engine used the same ramp head as they called the design used by Repco ,it did not go past development ,the mk2 that did go into production had parallel vertical valves [both were four valve]." IIRC, the R-R ramp-head design was dropped becau...

[no technical value]
If Chinese rods were as well made as Chinese wimmin, block sales
would take a major dump. Just saying.

Re: Inverted aero engines
I had a number of microfiche reels from USAFHRC. You pick a pre-packaged reel with stuff you want and it comes with all kinds of other stuff from WW2. That there was some interesting schiff. Only problem I had was there was only one reader in one library and they got real twitchy if you were on it t...

Re: Inverted aero engines
I know it's old technology, as high antiknock gasoline is no longer needed/available, but just for the record there is no such thing as 150 octane gas, or 130 octane etc. There are quite a few octanes, some of which have a low octane rating, BTW. Iso-Octane was picked as a reference fuel as it did h...

This is my favorite argument in the history of the universe, because everyone comes to the gunfight with lots of ammo and thus the argument can go on for ever. I do however, lament the fact that this argument has moved to the internet. While getting more folks involved, the loss of traditional venue...

Re: What Have You Learned from Tech?
For some reason this topic made me think of HPI or Hotrod Parts Illustrated which was a low budget one man band parts magazine I suspect and the tech stuff was totally non-commercial in attitude. Anybody else remember that mag? Old friend used to do really funny parodies of Hot Rod mag's tech articl...
