Re: AFR Valve seat and guide problem
I can see an axhaust valve seat receding quite a bit on a hydraulic lifter set-up, and still run ok. I had way more than 1/4" once on an old chevy 882 head, but the cam was worn, and the rocker stud pulled out of the head(press-in). It had finally lost power at that point, but when it was getti...

Re: We got problems... big problems.
anything other than measuring from a fixed point outside a cylinder can leave room for missing out of round cylidrical shape. if you're using three points, you could miss an out of round caused by a 3 pointed honing job, where the three pointed hone is oscilating in the bore at the same frquency as ...

Re: We got problems... big problems.
Here some more information on measuring bores with 2 point bore gauge. Another quote and pic to help explain what a 2 point bore gauge like the Sunnen really measures. It measures the distance between two points. That's it period. It does not necessarily tell you that a cylinder is out of round. If...

Re: LS heads on SBF
cool Idea. I will be following this thread closely to see what works. I am looking at options for running a Ford small block in road racing, without spending a fortune on a yates head set up. this LS idea has me listening. I haven't seen any sbf heads that can match the flow of LS heads with a good ...

Re: How many hp's does it take to operate a Magneto
with battery technology what it is now, you might ought to think about using the direct fire ignition. you can get a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery with the capacity of a normal 60 lb car battery that weighs 12 pounds, or a battery with the capacity of a compact lead acid 15lb battery that weighs ab...

Re: vacuum pump, why pull off valve covers
I think you are right about my friend's pump not having the volume necessary. I had not really lookied at it's specs till I already posted that. It looks to actually be more of a fluid transfer pump than a vacuum pump. I have used an electric factory smog pump from a european car on a drag motor wit...

Re: vacuum pump, why pull off valve covers
why use a belt driven vacuum pump on a drag race application? wouldn't it be easier, cheaper(electric pumpvs. pump, pulley brackets, fab time) to use an electric pump? also, if oil is picked up by trying to get as much vacuum as possible where it is needed most, why not just run the vent to a breath...

Re: AFR Titan Intake
Why not just drill out some water ports on the end of the heads and run hoses, and block off thepassages to the intake? then no water would touch the intake.

Re: AFR Titan Intake
nope, It would have to be made in 4 pieces, or maybe 3 for that, it is just a valley plate that covers the valley and water passages, and a spider that seals to it across the bottom to keep oil in. If they made the water crossovers separate and sealed to the spider across the front and back, and the...

Re: What would you build? (5.2 capacity limited)
for 5.2L out of an LS motor you need to bore tha ls1 or ls6 block to 3.93" and throw in a 4.8 vortec truck crank and rods with the correct oversize pistons for the LS1/LS6. add some ls7 or aftermarket heads and some solid lifters with the big rollers and a big roller cam. for induction, I would...

Re: What is the Max HP on a sealed GM 604
I think 550hp may be attainable with the specs you refer to. but not with the airflow on the 604 intake and heads without reworking the ports more than a little. and making the carb bigger.

Re: Horsepower difference Titanium valves
what does the flywheel do to increase rpms? no matter how quickly you accellerate a body in motion, the speed at which you let it go stays constsant unless acted upon by another force. it does not continue to accellerate. If you say it helps lap times somehow, I'll take your word for it, but I would...
