Re: Titanium Valves In A Daily Driver
How do the "copper filled" sintered iron seats work out with Ti? (Mahle etc) Tried to find those for a 3.6 subaru 6 awhile back to replace the junk factory seats (deep pitting at low liles common) but none in right size at the time. Figure the better cooling seats combined with the thermal...

Re: Aluminum head stuck spark plug
My bad, saw something shiny and jumped on it without too much thought... It forms a refractory metal oxide. doh. ...but it still works extremely well. It gets mostly displaced when the plug is properly torqued and resides in the gaps in any case. The spark plugs still always come out of my aircooled...

Re: Aluminum head stuck spark plug
I am sure it works but I am hopeful that the FAA will evaluate Jay's joint testing with Bosch. After 70+ years of highly successful use in aircraft I somewhat doubt it. (likely to have been in use even earlier on aluminum-headed piston aircraft engines, MoMs been around a long time) Stop and think ...

Re: Aluminum head stuck spark plug
To reinforce the above post: The aluminum expands in both directions--The plugs break away torque increases hot. The hole diameter will actually increase some. Aluminum also galls more easily hot. I should note the Milk of Magnesia antisieze is FAA approved, in fact required. I'm sure its a "sp...

Re: Aluminum head stuck spark plug
A touch of (unflavored, no mint flavor, sorry, sugar doesn't help things) Milk of Magnesia works very nicely as antisieze on aluminum heads (w/plugs going in only), old jet engine/heli engine trick.First heard it from Jake Raby, of VW/Porsche scene, and old helo wrench. Has none of the downsides of ...

Re: Oil system: Air/oil sepetrator?
Thanks, still trying to justify it, I have a full DS setup ready to roll, just not on the current car. You can get a basic 2 stage DS pump that plugs into an ACVW for ~$100 that actually works reasonably well (with some careful detail work...and mod for much larger fittings than supplied, possibly p...

Re: Oil system: Air/oil sepetrator?
Thanks for the excellent input, still processing the idea. The specific app I have in mind is a Aircooled VW boxer 4, relatively huge pumps (30-36mm) are typical due to the large clearances, but at high RPM, there is a LOT of air pumping going on due to engine configuration, as well as the vast majo...

Re: Oil system: Air/oil sepetrator?
Looks like they are in stock,(more ~this week) and should work on a wet sump if you have access to the bypass oil path, just treat the case as a dry sump tank, run the bypass loop through it, return the defoamed oil near the oil pickup, and the air/foamy oil return back to the rocker box to make it'...

Oil system: Air/oil sepetrator?
Does anyone have any experience (and/or rough idea of price) on the "SPINTRIC" air/oil separator produced by Armstrong Racing Engineering? (or other similar products) Search turned up zilch here on Speedtalk. http://www.spintric.com/Spintric.htm The few hits I have found on the previous ge...

Re: Fuel Injectors. Atomization?
Many OEMs use air shrouded injectors to improve the spray pattern, but as they are using manifold vacuum to draw the shrouding air, it's only effective at lower MAPs. I have often wondered if some of the older continuous flow systems could be adapted to CIS injectors--- They put out a pretty decent ...

Re: Fuel Injectors. Atomization?
Dieselgeek, thatk you for that extremely interesting post--- Not often you hear the goriest of details of a top level tune and experiments to get there. Maybe they'll allow staged injection next time  Whe you say "higher" do you mean distance to valve? The prior poster seemed to m...

Re: Fuel Injectors. Atomization?
I think you could effectively use this setup with a Megasquirt and sequential COPs, using the hires ignition side for the injector air shot, and using a stand alone ignition. that's awesome!! I could use a second MS derivative to run spark easily. If EMC allows our Megasquirt next year (I've heard ...

An Evil Plan to fix the deficit?
An old friend spammed me with this, only it's not actually spam... It's actually an excellent idea to force an fast/effective fix to the deficit. I have no idea of the Warreen Buffet quotes accuracy, but it sounds like something he would say... Even if he didn't, he should have. ********************...

A quick search of Google found a few tidbits against moly in oils and coatings Cummins Engine Oil Recommendations, Bulletin No. 3810340-02 . Its probably best if you stopped by a Cummins Dealer and purchased this bulletin- about $2 or $3. On page 7 it has a section on FRICTION MODIFIERS states: &qu...
