Mixing standard and X Clevite bearings
When mixing bearings in a rod, the thicker bearing is usually preferred in the rod and not the cap, is this correct? I believe the mains are the opposite, the thicker goes in the cap. OR does it really matter when talking .0005 difference? Thanks.

Re: MSD 6 AL?
Other than removing the ignition from the distributor and the engine area and using a box mounted in the car, I don't see any real advantage to it. If it works now then it's fine.

Re: Brake spindle question
Wilwood kits I thought worked on both spindles. My chevelle is a drum brake car, and I put the wildwood disk brake setup right on it.

Re: K-1100 Spring Pressure vs Rate?
I don't know about the 1100's but I used the 1000H springs with good success, and the shop I worked at used mostly the 950 spring on the circle track motors.

Re: Oil Pan, Harmonic balancer
Assuming stock chassis car, the Moroso 20403 is a good pan. I ran it on all my motors up to the 540 in the Chevelle.

Re: Max RPM 402 BBC
I used Speed Pro 2287 pistons, 7/16 rods with ARP bolts, cast crank and 2 bolt block. 781 casting heads with 2.19/1.88 valves, performer rpm air gap and 800 Holley. Using a Lunati 40209 cam with 249/258 @.050 and .574/.588 lift it made peak power at 6800 and was shifted at 7000. This was a street / ...

I have the 55gph on my bbc bracket car. No issues whatsoever with the 180 thermostat in there too.

Re: is 7000 rpm to much for stock gm 454 crank
If we are talking a steel crank, then no. I would put main studs in it, and run it. Use light pistons like a JE, SRP etc and it will be fine. My 2 bolt 427 made peak power at 7300 rpm with steel crank, chevy 7/16 rods and JE pistons. It went 10.30's at 3400 lbs. My 509 used a chevy 4" steel cra...

Like was said, it's a guessing game. Most of what I have seen is between 38-40 works well.

Re: Oil pan advice
I run an altered and have had the same issue with my motor. Switched to the Reher Morrison Moroso pan pump combo and have never had an issue again. I can get on the brakes hard from 150 and the pressure never drops below 45lbs. I think this is what I bought. Even though it was not from Reher Morris...

Re: Oil pan advice
Yup. Had the same issue with a Stefs economy pan too. At 150 when I get on the brakes the pressure drops and turns on the 30 lbs oil light. I hit the brakes, and then when the light comes on, lift off the brakes and then get back on them. Just pulled the short block apart and the bearings looked fin...

Re: Race tuning question.
My thought is on the power valves as well. Not so much both of them, but my expereince with 4150 carbs is to block the rear, and go up about 6-8 jets over factory. I always leave the front one in. It cleans up around the pits and low rpm driving. This isn't saying though that the motor shouldn't be ...

Re: King or Clevite bearings
I think the numbers I looked at are King MB556XP to replace the Clevite MS829H. The second is King CR808XPN to replace the Clevite CB743HN. I've just heard so much about the King bearings. If they are better I just didn't want to pass up the opportunity.
