Re: spark plugs in the 21st century

I replace a lot of spark plugs on fords.. the 3.5 ecoboost likes to have plugs replaced around 50k miles due to increased plug gap. It’s a noticeable difference. The first design 3 valve 5.4 is the same, 50k and it’s a noticeable difference when replaced. However the 2nd design 3 valve with the long...

Re: Gasser Cam

I’d say run the springs at installed height, don’t bother with the .050 locks, just use edm lifters and let it spin. More spring pressure (within reasonable limits has never been a bad thing) use good oil, Mike supplies quality parts so flattening a cam or having a lifter eat itself isnt an issue......

Question about piston ring sizes

I’m building a 4.6 Ford that’s .020 over. The new pistons are 3.572, I was looking for rings and some are made 3.571 and some are 3.572. Why the .001 difference and is there really a difference? Would the 3.571 be less drag instead of the 3.572? Or is this just a difference in branding and marketing...

Re: What To Do Now 331 Ford Stroker

Pull plug wires one at a time with the engine running and see if the knocking reduces, that should pin point what cylinder it’s coming from.

Re: Did these cams get too hot?

Yes, they are ford modular cams.. 262ah They showed up on marketplace, so I don’t know the history.. I was looking for something cheap for our lemons crown vic.. I was considering a car fire because of the coloring and the journals still looked ok, but some of the lobes have the coloring removed fro...

Did these cams get too hot?

Stumbled across this and was trying to figure out what happened for my own curiosity..

Did they get too hot? Poor heat treating? The journals still look nice.. just curious and trying to learn.

Re: lean on both banks...1999 C2500 Suburban

Is it a map sensor speed density system or mass air flow? With cranking compression at 180 the cam timing is prolly ok.. How is the idle quality with fuel trims that lean?? Possible stuck open egr valve? O2 sensors don’t know Rich or Lean, they just know if oxygen is present or not.. misfires can be...

Re: Aggressive vs mild hft cam

The nose of the lobes wear out.. I use aggressive hydraulic flat tapper stuff in circle track applications and replace the cam and lifters every year because the lobes are obviously worn and rounded. The lifters still look ok, but the cam has obvious wear because of spring pressures both seat and op...

Here in California, they made the switch about 6 months ago.. I prefer the craftsman to the kobalt for quality and feel when using them.

When the new corvette is released, give it a year. They will get smashed up and be perfect donors for a mid engine kit car..

Re: '95 Ford F150 fault codes

The dpfe sensor is a 3 wire pressure transducer.. with it plugged in 1 wire will have 5 volts, one wire will have less than .2 volts and the last should be around 1.0v with no egr gasses flowing. It should raise up in voltage when you apply vacuum to the egr valve to induce flow. Try and find a ford...
