Re: Any tricks to remove tight rod caps

I've hammered on a old 1/2" drive extension and socket while disassembling old stock engines, I also have several hard oak drifts made out of an old shovel handle. Something like this is what you need to use with rods that use rod "bolts".

Re: Any tricks to remove tight rod caps

If the rods are in the engine, no can use rod vice there, lol. Might have to have two guys beating on the both rod bolts at the same time. Maybe the big end is egged shaped, good luck.

Re: Aluminium vs Steel rods

Arrow Precision titanium connecting rods are coated with Chromium Nitride (CrN) applied by the physical vapour deposition (PVD) process. The CrN coating produces a thin, wear resistant layer on the working surfaces of the rod that significantly increases the component life when compared to an uncoat...

Re: Aluminium vs Steel rods

Steel rods like used in nascar leave more room in the crankcase than the bulkier alum. rods would for "air" to move around which decreases pumping losses even with dry sump oiling.

Re: Aluminium vs Steel rods

Pankl owns Carrillo CP now.

Most of those nascar rods have honda sized big end, tapered beam and small dia. pin ends, 6.2" or so long and eng. to be light and strong.

Re: Aluminium vs Steel rods

I think Kasse was building engines for Ricky Smith (Fowler?) when he had the Mustang II sponsored by the Oak Ridge Boys and they were using BME rods then too as other alum rods were failing at the time. I think Rickey was the first into the 7"s with a 7.99.

Re: List of all Hot Car Drag Tests 1960-72 Follow up Horsepower Wars

Dawg , I’m a die hard FOMOCO guy , editorially speaking Shelby did not win Sebring 12 hour in 64 but GT 103 Did win in 65 in GT prototype class behind Jim Hall In the Chapparal in Sports class after the famous deluge in the middle of the race. This vehicle had earlier won the Daytona Continental. T...

Re: Aluminium vs Steel rods

If you can use the steel rods, crank and pistons, you wont have to rebalance the crank, but if the rods need new bolts and reconditioned I would just buy some new steel rods from someone like scat and sell the used rods to recoup some of your money. If the bracket engine is built right you will neve...
